  1. Update A little more time and it's really happy now and so are the pea's ๐Ÿ˜Š
  2. Sooooo... The LFS puffers didn't even make a week. My original 2 are fine. I was kind of upset that they all seemed to be ok at first but refused to eat and one by one they literally disappeared. Fast forward 4 weeks ago and 4 new puffers arrived from Dan's fish. All looking amazing! One so far I named it Chubs. Quarantined them for 4 weeks and now just added them to the display tank. Definitely more action on the tank where before you wondered if there were fish in there. The tank as a whole is growing in nicely and I'm very happy. Currently I have 4 Otto's I'm quarantine that will be added to this tank when I know they are clean. (They have tape worm, same LFS) ๐Ÿ˜
  3. Still going! I did get a tab under it after I posted originally. Now starting to make some moves. ๐Ÿ˜
  4. Personally I have found growth slows above 30ppm. (That's in the CO2 tank) also with this tank being so new I have been keeping it low as not to activate algae. Slow and steady till it's on balance and that will take time. My high tech tank didn't like running 40+ ppm but it's not the same. I've learned all of my tanks are different and I have to just see what they like the best. For now I'm going to target about 30 and see how it does๐Ÿคžonce it's a bit more mature I'll push it hard with ferts and light and see how it does
  5. Yes. Because not easy way to check other nutrients I use that to judge and with a few pea puffers and an Otto it's not the bio load (and food) so yes I agree it's showing a deficiency over all. I pumped 3 more pumps this morning after it tested 10 this morning after adding 3 pumps yesterday. Hope to see 20 when I get home tonight
  6. I'm a water junkie lol. RODI and I remineralize. I have super hard water with lots of other junk in the water too (SW FL) API master kit less than a year old and I use a hanna checker for nitrates if I need to know exactly. I use the coop strips for quick tests a few times a week. Just a fyi I did a test a while back using all 3 nitrate tests. Coop strips, API and Hanna. Comparing to the Hanna all 3 had the same reading (the Hanna being more exact) but gave me confidence that the strips are super accurate. But what you said is a very valid point. I bought a new API lot when I realized the one I had was over 2 years old and I had thoughts it wasn't accurate. This is my low tech tank but I have a scaped 40b with CO2 and all the works.
  7. Thanks. That gives me an idea of what to look for. I'll see how the roots are taking. The substrate is eco complet red. If the roots have grown in I'll put in another root tabs under it. When I got it and it had leaves and some roots already.
  8. Who has red tiger lotus in their tank? This is the first bulb plant I have gotten. When I got it, it already had leaves so I knew what way was up. It's not buried, just a touch of it in so the roots were in the substrate. I put it in the tank the week of New Years. I haven't seen much of any growth. Seachem root tabs and I dose easy green. I often find that I'm back to zero nitrate under a week. Do you think it's because the other plants are out competing it for nutrients? Do I just need to dose more often so keep up nitrates a bit? The crypts have started to grow over it so I think it's getting good light. All plants from Aquarium Co-Op Just for info it's a 29g long very lightly stocked with pea Puffers and an Otto.
  9. I have had 2. I asked my LFS to get me 3 more. Will see how many come in. Might add 5 more. They were living in a community tank with fancy Guppies and neon terras. With the population boom of the guppies it was getting harder and harder to get food to the puffers. I decided it was time to make them their own tank.
  10. Hi everybody ๐Ÿ‘‹ I wanted to share my new 29g pea puffer tank. The video is to big to upload to the site so check out the link below of you would like to see some live action shots ๐Ÿ˜Š Bill
  11. They have such personalities. Over the few years and few I have had they all have been different. All interact with me in different ways. I do prefer the smaller fish as all my my takes are scapes and large fish would never fit the prospective. I about to post about the new 29g tank I just set up for the puffers ๐Ÿ˜Š
  12. Thank you, it's red eco-complete. Hyggar 978 Changed water and added a few more plants
  13. Hi everybody ๐Ÿ‘‹ So while Christmas shopping I could find anything for anybody so I bought a fish tank ๐Ÿ˜‚ 29g for my pea puffers. Ordered all my plants of the coop. Showed up Friday. Got some time in today. Still cloudy and might water change again tomorrow, will see. Seeded with an sponge filter I have in another tank. Using the coop sponge filter and I got to say I'm impressed with the flow. Super excited to see how it will grow out. Tiger lotus on the right I hope will give the right a nice pop when it grows in. ๐Ÿ˜
  14. Okay, let me see what I can find tomorrow. Kind of hard to find that around here but I have a few other places to check. Thank you for the help
  15. After the post I did start to drop the temp. I don't really think it's ick also. I'm going to dose erythromycin (API I couldn't get maracyn today) I had to really go looking but spotted the fish in the 1st pic. I would say the same of not a bit less but either way I do see a spot here and there in others. Nothing really more than I saw Thursday evening. Ran every parameter including hardness all were good 7.4 0-0-21 GH 8 kh5 temp now 77
  16. Hello everyone. I Have 3 tanks and was pretty sure they all had tapeworm so I treated all of them with paraclense. One tank after the treatment that has prob 100 guppies (that's a different issue ๐Ÿ˜‚and a hand full of neon Tetras) A few, and I mean a few (the majority look fine) have white spots. The first picture was 2 days ago and the second looks to be a different fish but was a good picture of the bumps look risen. One big female has it only on her right fin. This was spotted two days ago and I haven't really seen it spreading but I've also never dealt with ick so not sure how fast it would. I was trying to find the same fish but nothing standing out. The female with the right fin still only has it on that spot and has not spread making me thing it's not ick. I don't want to treat it for ick if I don't have to and I just finished treating with paraclense. Was the stress of that related? all tanks getting water change today and I had brought this tank up to 80-81 as I was prepping for ick treatment and wanted to slow rise the tank. so since it's been 2 days and no real "outbreak" should I start dropping the temp back down (usually about 77) no new fish on over 6 months.
  17. Thanks. That's where I am at. Follow the box and do another treatment in 2 weeks and maybe again 2 weeks after that. ๐Ÿคž
  18. I'm pretty sure it's tape worm in the male puff from a recent poop sighting. I'll stick to the box. Then again in 2 weeks. Thanks ๐Ÿ‘
  19. That makes sense. It's just confusing. A video Cory made 2 yrs ago say follow the package instructions. That would be two doses, a second dose in day 3. Either way I will still do the 2nd week treatment. Being that no fish are new and I think the puffer might have had this some time now am I better off with sticking to the box? (second treatment on day 3)
  20. Hello everyone, I'm treating all my tanks with paraclense as I suspect my pea puffers have tapeworm and cross contamination is very good possiblity. None are new fish. I do buy snails from the local fish store and my puffers do look pinched. I have lost 2 neons over the past few months. Reading the directions on the ACO site it says don't feed for 7days when doing the trio but doesn't say that if just doing paraclense. It just "says let tank sit 7 days" then do water change. Is the skip feeding only if doing the trio? What effect would feeding have on the medication? I've done all other things such as remove chemical filtration and UV. Air stone running in all tanks 24/7 It's first time using this so I just want to do it right. Any advice is welcome Thanks!
  21. Thank you, yes that backlighting is great for a sunset look. The light is wild. Does lighting storm and comes with speakers and plays its own tracks (like thunder and rain to do with the lights) and some very relaxing music. Really sets the time of the house.
  22. Installed the filter, UV sterilizer, power strip, cleaned up the wiring so it's not a mess. I promised myself I wouldn't let this become spaghetti ๐Ÿ. Leveled the tank, half filled and check and leveled again. I'm so excited. I had this pure idea where I was going to let it cycle on its own. Meanwhile I have 2 other cycled tanks I could have just seeded it. Some reason I thought I could stop cross contamination. Lol. So I let it cycle fish and plant less for a few weeks ghost feeding and it cycles. It also allow me time to buy the hard scape trees and plants. I got 6 trees in total. 3 somewhat big, all different in shapes and 3 small ones trying to make an illusion of depth with the sizes. The small ones will get a moss and the big trees monti. I added a few guppies in I had (there goes cross contamination lol) and we are done right! Not even close
  23. Jan 2023. Got a 40 breeder and stand on sale. Order a Oase biomaster 250 mostly because I don't want to see any equipment of at all possible. Told a friend about my new hobby (I have a 29 bow front and a 10g (my first tank) and he sent me the vw bus and bug. Ummm not really what I'm looking for but I promised I would put them in the tank. So I did. ๐Ÿ˜‚ (They are actually in the 10g currently that is a guppy over flow tank. ) I'm an automotive mechanic so the car are fitting. I put a lighting defuser on the bottom of the tank as a protector. I drop things lol. Fear of dropping a big stone, breaking the glass. It fits perfectly and below the bottom rim so it can't be seen. I filled two laundry bags full of lava rock to build it up for the hills I was wanting. Seeing how it would fit. I got the Current USA lighting kit (serene) speakers and background lighting. I don't want a lid so I got the bracket kit for the light as well. At this point I'm just playing with the lights all night ๐Ÿ˜‚
  24. Hi everybody ๐Ÿ‘‹ I love the idea of sharing the journey. This is one of a 40 breeder. I had a vision of rolling hills and bonsai trees with monte Carlo, hair grass field with a white sand path. VERY much inspired by AcquaPros mike's tank with back lighting (game changer for me personally) I'll share my success and failures and all the changes I made along the way. The tank is 1 year old now and so much has been learned along the path and changed. That's what's so much fun. The learning. It's going to take some time to post it's history but here is a current picture of today, December 2023
  25. Hi everybody. Watching an old live stream a question comes in about a fish and the owner writes in "L357" or what ever it was. (It was a tiger stripe pleco I think) then Corey went and looked it up online. What is that? I'm fairly new but not very new. At the point I want to learn about more fish then my LFS has on hand for me to see. I would appreciate any guidance towards educational materials for learn more about what's available Thanks!
