  1. Hi guys... wondering if anyone would know what's going on with my albino female in this picture. She's behaving rather stressed and I have a feeling she won't last much longer, but I'm interested to hear what this might be and if it could be transmittable to other fish in the tank.

    Thanks,

@Augustjd27 is there a reason you've avoided or not used decholor up to this point? I'm trying to ask this honestly and fairly, and without my own opinions on the matter being obvious... having difficulty 😞 Is it cost? Have you been told it's not necessary? Do you not trust the products or mfrs?

Was 25% a higher amount of water change than usual? Anything else different? New fish in the past few months? Plants?

I know some fellow hobbyists who deliberately don't use dechlorinator as dechlorinator removes oxygen and chlorine may have some antibacterial benefits for the health of the fish. This was a pretty standard water change for me, but I think from now on I'll use dechlorinator just to be safe. Thanks!

  3. Hey guys. I did a 25% water change on my 20 high fancy guppy tank and within 3 hours 4/5 adults and all 3 juveniles were dead. I'm not sure what the issue was and now I'm pretty afraid of ever doing water changes. They just seemed to drop dead with no major symptoms.

The water temp dropped by about 2 degrees but I figure that's too small to matter. I tested and the tank and tap pH are identical. Only possibility I see is chlorine or chloramine as I don't use dechlorinator, but I've never encountered this issue before.

Please feel free to share your thoughts on why they may have died. Thank you!

  4. Hi. I'm a member of the Aquarium Coop YouTube channel and I haven't been able to chat in the live streams in months.

I believe I got spam blocked by YouTube for asking the same question repeatedly.

Is there any way this can be undone? At this point I'm considering making a new YouTube account and cancelling my current membership so I will be able to chat again.

    Thank you,

  5. Hi,

I recently hatched about 20 Corydoras Paleatus and am attempting to raise them in a specimen container. Currently I have tried feeding crushed Omega One flake, frozen baby brine shrimp, live baby brine shrimp, and a powder food similar to Golden Pearls my local fish store gave me.

Do you think this feeding regimen is adequate? Hope I can get a high survival rate. I'm doing 50% water changes daily. Thanks!

  6. So from what I understand based on significant research into my Orange Venezuelan Corydoras, I believe they are simply a selectively bred form of Corydoras Aeneus (Bronze and Albino's general species). I'm guessing the eggs aren't infertile, or if they are the cause is not incompatibility of species. Based on how hormones stimulate Corydoras to breed I don't think they would attempt to spawn if they would not be genetically compatible. Would like to hear @Cory opinion but those are my thoughts. Good luck!

There are species of pleco that are great for that, and they're big enough not to get eaten by oscars (I don't recall how big a jack dempsey gets) without making HUGE messes of their own. I think they're about the only bottom feeder I'd consider for tanks with big cichlids, other than maybe some of the mid-sized catfish (8"-12" like some of the Synodontis species). The plecos have the added bonus of being armor-plated, so they're less likely to be injured by an oscar picking at them (as they tend to do at times).

I suggest avoiding the common pleco and large catfish that get 18" or bigger, or you'll end up with a whole different mess. They make huge messes all their own. LOL

I'm not sure most (any?) cories would work. Unless you can get some big enough that oscars won't even try to swallow them. Are there any cories that get really big? I think the biggest species I've seen is only about 4", and that's small enough for a full-grown oscar to swallow. ?? In my experience when I had oscars, if it fit in that big old mouth of theirs, they WOULD eat it. One of mine, at about 12", ate a full grown albino red-tailed shark that was 6" long. I couldn't believe it! Given the size of the shark, I had assumed it'd be safe. So much for that theory....

Any idea if a royal pleco would work. I've always loved their look and think that could make an attractive combo.

  8. Hello, I have an Oscar and 4 Electric Blue Jack Dempsey's in a 125. They eat ravenously but any food that falls to the bottom they ignore. I'm looking for a good tank mate to cover the bottom third of the aquarium. I'm thinking something that would do well in a group of 6 or more would be nice, but I'd welcome any and all suggestions. Thanks!

When we are ready can we preorder them? We will be traveling over 3 hours.   I want 8-10.   And can we choose colors?

I live close to the Coop and visit almost once a week. If you wanted we could work something out where I update you on their stock weekly and could buy and hold them for you if you see something you'd want. If you're interested, let me know and we could possibly work something out

  10. Hello, I am thinking of breeding some guppies in a 15 gallon aquarium with my German blue rams. The aquarium is heated to 84 F at the moment. Would guppies be able to breed and thrive at such a high temperature, or would it need to be lower. Interested in anyone's opinion on the ideal temperature to breed guppies for maximum production and fish health....a range would be nice to know also if possible.

    Thanks guys!
