  1. here is a short video of my birds in my aviary. i am wondering if other fishkeepers also keep birds or other animals in addition to their fish passion? i cant seem to choose between so i do both hobbies. enjoy, cheers.
  2. i use this to trap my mature bristlenose. i put a algae wafer or some beans and then put on bottom. works well and no stress for me or fish, all it takes is patience. give it a try! cheers
  3. i put Corys magic eraser cleaner on the inside magnet and it cleans fantastically, and my hands stay dry. You have to slice it thinly on thick glass but then you get even more cleaning out of it. give it a try! Cheers.
  4. It is a brand new tank so no copper or any contaminant. The pH is 6.5 which is what the bag containing the fluval stratum says it will keep the pH at. My tanks in my fish room are very hard water with ph around 7.4. so I guess it's likely it was the lack of drip acclimentation.
  5. i recently set up a fluval spec with cycled media in the filter and fluval stratum as substrate. i added some endlers and bloody mary shrimp and immediately the shrimp became stressed and since then half have died. the endlers are perfect. i didnt drip acclimate or anything because i have a fish room and routinely switch fish and shrimp around with no bad effect. i also have not used stratum as a substrate before. did i kill them by stupidly not realising the ph would be lower? i am going to add some wonder shells before i try putting more in. any advice appreciated. cheers
  6. i got the idea to breed for large size from Cory's interview with greg sage. these males are almost 7 inches long with tail and the females are about 5 inches or so, i think. what i did was remove all the early sword bearing males. then the ones that i thought were female keep growing and then after several months start to show sword etc. not sure if they'd be viable commercially because of the long growout period and the giant size but i really like them and find them spectacular. thanks for all the kind comments. cheers.
  7. I have been selectively breeding the late maturing and much larger swordtails. after a couple of years now i notice that at full size, even the females have a tiny nub of a sword on the tail. perhaps the small ones at the pet stores have this feature too but we just dont notice it. just thought i'd share with the group. cheers from freezing ottawa!
  8. hi there; if you look at my previous post you will see that i use a divider holder with suction cups. also they do stay alive and do great. plus when cleaning tank or catching fish you just unsuck it from the glass and remove the plant with no damage or stress...as opposed to the ones i rooted in pots, always makes a big mess when i take them out for whatever reason.
  9. hey all. just thought i'd share this tip i use. you can get these clips on amazon super cheap and then just put an elastic around it and then stick it to the side of the tank. works great and the roots go down to shelter fry. hope you give it a try.
  10. I am sitting here watching Cory tour a wholesale facility and i am reminded of my bad luck with all of the short bodied goldfish i have kept over the yrs. i have 15 yr old normal goldfish and shubunkins, but the telescope eyes, ryukins, pearl scales etc, all ended up dying bloated and floating upside down. i tried everything ( this was over the course of 4 yrs) but eventually they died. are there any surefire tipes to prevent this? is it food or genetics? i dont want to revisit until i know what i did wrong. cheers.
  11. understood. By the way Cory, I owe you a debt of gratitude because of you and your channel and your advice I've been running a successful fish room for years now and it really is all thanks to you. I would suggest you're changing the North American Hobby in the same way Elon Musk is changing space etc. I can only say thank you for all you do .cheers from Canada.
  12. i was watching some old daily dose videos and i noticed that Corey was unable to get the auto drip system to work. i have had my running perfectly for about 6 yrs now. i wonder if Corey didnt use the emitters that come with it or if he did not install the 5 psi limiter ahead of output. it only works on low pressure with the pressure reducer attached. the other thing is that it is a slow flow, 2 to 5 gallons per hour so its not great for massive and quick water changes. the upside is i did the whole fish room for the cost of the kit, about 90 dollars here in canada. cheers
  13. They do ship their products. The woman told me they are not allowed to ship the aquarium co-op products . It sounds a little bit odd to me but perhaps it's a condition of there being a retailer for Corey.
  14. i called the store that carries the products but they wont ship them for some reason. she suggested finding someone living nearby and have them pick up the order. does anyone have a friend who could do this? we would pay for merchandise and the person would ship to us, presumably for a fee. any takers out there?
  15. It generally takes five to 10 minutes per tank depending on how dirty. I have two different filters in it which are cartridge so they're micron filtration and I clean them between uses because they plug up fast. I find it a very good and gentle way to clean the tank and the fish don't seem to mind as you can see from the pictures. Good luck cheers.
  16. i use the small internal filter to sweep the bottom clean after the detritus builds up to much. i got the idea from corey's china video where he showcased the tanks with the return on the bottom to keep it swept clean. it works well and doesnt suck up any babies. cheers
  17. hi there. i'm in canada so i can no longer purchase from the coop online, but i am wondering if you no longer sell stuff on amazon? i cant find anything on there anymore and it is the only way i can get easy green up here. any info on this situation would be appreciated. cheers kev
  18. I thought all was perfect in my indoor pond and was watching a video about test kits that Cory did. i thought everything was perfect but figured i'd do it anyway. turns out, the nitrate was off the charts! everything else was perfect but the pump had seized on the hyrdoponic (nitrate removal part of the system) and was no longer removing nitrate. many water changes later all is well and the nitrate is gone, but i feel its a good reminder to never be complacent and assume crystal clear water is equally perfect. thanks Cory!
  19. for mineral deposits, i use the "barkeepers friend "powder to clean glass. it removes everything and makes the glass look new.
  20. Koi and goldfish and Jack Dempsey. I set up at start of pond so I don't have any pre numbers. Cheers
  21. The other bonus is it appears the Anubis starves out the duck weed. All of my tanks with this setup have since lost their duckweed.
