Well just doing very QUICK research they do similar things BUT I see ACCR claims not to deplete oxygen levels which is beneficial as overuse of Prime (which I use and have never had issue with) CAN do.

What seems to be the issue in your tank?

In reading the ACCR dosage page on Fritz's website a quarter teaspoon aka 1.25mg is probably fine as it says you can dose up to 5x the dosage to remove greater ammounts of ammonia than 1.0ppm

Thank you! I have written down the measurements. I appreciate your help!

I have 3 Cherry Barbs, 3 Panda Corys and 1 Fake Julii Corydora and 1 zebra loach that eats the mystery snails.

The issue I had in the 10 gallon tank in my living room was nitrates. I believe I had it overstocked as I had 1 betta and a few more Panda Corys. My nitrates kept going high. So instead of replacing the fish the kept dying, I just didn't. So i have had this lot for a few months now... water parameters have been great and I just added a plant. I didn't have any plants in this tank because they would die. So I do a water change ever week.

So I am happy it's been a few months now that the levels are good and the fish are thriving and happy from what I can see. So I was just nervous to change from Fritz Complete to the ACCR. I ran out last night when I did my water change on my other two tanks.

    I hope I made sense!

So it would be a quarter teaspoon. Like breaking up a dollar, 4 quarters=1 dollar.

You might have to consider your substrate volume too I've never used ACCR so not sure if you can overdose.

    1.25 Milligrams, correct?

I'm going to continue reading about A.C.C.R. I don't want to mess up my tank. This 10 gallon has been my death tank and I barely have a few months with everyone still alive.

Sorry, I am horrible with numbers!

    Thank you!

  3. Good evening!

I am horrible with mathematics and solving or trying to figure out the measurements...

    Can someone help me?

I have Fritz Pro Aquatics A.C.C.R.

It says 1 teaspoon treats 40 gallons.

    I have 10 gallons.

Can someone assist me in trying to figure it out or direct me? I used to use the liquid kind, but decided to get the dry stuff.

    Thank you in advance!

Glad to hear that your fish are okay!

The biggest thing to keep in mind when power goes out (especially in areas where heaters are not too big of an issue) is keeping the beneficial bacteria alive and oxygenating the tank. Thankfully, it looks like you've already got both under control.

Anyway, nice tanks, and good luck with your fish!

Yes, I am making sure that I top off the HOB filters before pouring water over the tank water.

    Thank you very much!

  5. Just got home. Power still out. Just getting a cup and pouring it down tank water on each tank to create some oxygen.

I put candles around one because it went from 78 to 75/74.

Thank you for all your replies! I’m hoping power comes on soon.

  6. I have Zebra Danios, Panda Corys, Bettas, Hillstream Loach, Otocinclus, Cherry Barbs, Espi Raspbora (sp) and Amano shrimp.

I am in Southern California. It’s not that cold but I’ve never had an outage so not sure how cold the water can get.

I wish I could leave work but can’t. Ugh. I’m just really hoping I don’t lose any fish. They’re all so dear to me.

  7. My power went out since 10am today. I have 3 tanks. One 20 gallon and two 10 gallons. I had to leave to work and I’m sad that I’ll come home to dead fish. I am so upset. Power is still out and an estimate is for 8pm.

    I'm very heartbroken. 😞

Suggestions or tips on when I get home. I’ll be home around 6-6:30pm. 😞

Right now, none. But I recently had 12 harlequin rasboras in there for over a month, now they're in the main tank. Before that I had it in my old 5 gallon quarantine tank for 3 groups of other fish.

Okay, thank you for sharing! I think I'll just go with the 10 gallon and the nano...

How many nerites? If only a couple or so, you'll be more than fine.

    Most likely 1 or 2.

having too many fish in your tank it depends on what you are keeping and what size tank you set up.

How many and what kind of fish do you intend to put in there? If you're lightly stocking with small fish, the sponge you have will work fine in the 10g. If you're stocking with larger fish or doing a large number, you might need the bigger sponge. That's what the "overstocking" question meant.

Plants will help, but hardscape can, too. Bacteria develop on that stuff, as well as the substrate, so the filter won't be carrying the whole load. 🙂

Oh! Okay, thank you for the explanations to both of you.

It will house my male betta that I am moving from my 20 gallon community tank and some Nerite snails. I will have some sand, live plants and the nano sponge filter. 🙂 I am leaning more towards the 10 gallon because it's more space for Captain America (that is my betta's name) but if I have to get the 5.5 for the sponge filter then so be it.

    Just now, Maggie said:

I have a nano sponge for my 10 gallon quarantine tank and it works fine. I use a small in my 20 gallon.

May I ask what fish you have in your 10 gallon? Sorry, I am just nervous if the nano is too small. If it's been working fine for you then it makes me more confident to buy the 10 gallon.

  10. 4 minutes ago, Dawn T said:

The answer is probably. LOL Seriously, though, what's the size of the sponge, and is fine or coarse? AC sells great sponge filters. You might compare the dimensions and type of sponge to those sold on there. They give sizes and recommendations about which size to use in what size tank.

    https://www.aquariumcoop.com/collections/sponge-filters/products/aquarium-co-op-coarse-sponge-filter

I have the AquariumCoop Nano Spong Filter. It says 5 gallons and up, but the small says 10 gallons and up. It made me wonder if the nano is not enough?

  11. Can I use my nano sponge filter in a 10 gallon or would I have to purchase a small sponge filter?

I am on the fence about either getting a 5.5 gallon or 10 gallon. I have everything else. I really want the 10 gallon, but am not sure if my nano filter will be enough. It's why I might get the 5.5 gallon...

Please advise? Thank you in advance.

  12. Ooh! I'll be following this to see what others say. I have Panda Corys and I have sand substrate. So far their little whiskers (I call them that lol) are still good. It's something i'm paranoid about so every morning I make sure to check to see if any have gone missing.

I thought gravel was "bad" for Corys because of their whiskers, so reading that people have had success with gravel really interests me!

  13. I am not too educated on molting and I'm new to the fish/shrimp world. The reason I'm answering is because two of my Amano shrimp molted and parts of their old shell didn't come off right. I was freaking out and even posted here but didn't get much help. I was just asked about my water parameters. I continued looking online and most things I read just said to leave it alone. I'll say it took like 3-4 weeks for them to completely molt it off. Now they're on and about and living life good again.

I am hoping your Crayfish is doing better.

I'm sure eventually it will come off. 🙂

Ohhh Molly the Platy! I love it! haha I thought you were saying "my molly" (mollie?) I get those two livebearers mixed up.

I see, that all makes sense.  Like I said it's probably ok, and always so hard to know what the right thing to do is.  Have you seen @Irene's video about making a quick quaratine tank out of a plastic tupperware tub and an existing (cycled) sponge filter?  That's what I did, and it worked out pretty well.  You do need extra heater, etc. all that too though, it's cheaper than a whole other tank, but still requires a lot of equipment. I'm sure what you're doing is fine and she appreciates the calm zone of the basket.  do you have plants and things in the basket for extra cover?

Yes, my sweet Molly the Platy. She is my last Platy to survive from the 5 I originally got back in June 2020. They were all fine up until Mid-December. Then, one by one they started dying. 😞 I wasn't sure why and I began treating my 20 gallon with Maracyn and Maracyn 2. Wish I would have done Paracleanse

She has Lily pads above her giving her cover. My Danios are leaving her alone, but I think I may lose her tonight. 😞 She is on her side just breathing. I keep talking to her and telling her to fight it and that she is my girl. 🙂 I just see her little eye move from me to up and then back to me. ❤️

It's very sweet how lovable fish are.

I did see Irene, Girl Talks Fish, video on quarantine. It's why I bought a nano sponge filter and a small heater to have on hand. My sponge filter is in my 20 gallon to get the beneficial bacteria, but after this spike of ammonia and nitrate idk if it will work.

I appreciate your help along with everyone else who commented. Please know that I am taking all the knowledge you share to learn more. ❤️

Lastly, I don't know much about this, and I hope more experienced folks correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like you moved your sick molly back into the main tank into a quarantine basket?  I completely understand that, I felt horrible for my endler the whole time he was alone in his quarantine tank.  But I have been doing some research on breeder boxes to use for the pregnant female endler I have, and am seeing some reports about how stressful they are.  I don't know if that would apply here, and I know there are a lot of ways that being in the main tank could also be unsafe for a sick fish. I'm sure you're doing the right thing here, but just another variable -- but please don't pull your hair out anymore!

Thank you so much for your input! I truly appreciate it! I used to use Fritzyme 7 in the beginning because I was so scared I'd kill off my fish. I stopped using it around September/October. I might go back as a bit of help. 🙂

In regards to your last paragraph, my Platy (her name is Molly, but I'm not sure if I mentioned it before and it is why she is being called Molly? lol) has been quarantined in the 20 gallon. So I don't have another extra tank for a quarantine tank. So I bought a little mesh basket for fry and have put her in the mesh basket away from the other fish. My Zebra Danios are jerks and fast. lol Anyways, she has always been in the 20 gallon, just in her little basket for the past week or so because she has been sick. She was improving, but now she looks very bad. I'm so sad because I feel like it's my fault she is in that situation. After reading your research about the little mesh basket I might have to try to find a plastic bucket or something to house her in by her self.

Thank you so much for sharing your words! I truly appreciate. ❤️

no don't do daily water changes AND a paraclense treatment. Go do a 50% waterchange and add seachem prime which will detoxify some of the amonia. This should really help then start off with the paraclense treatment.

Okay, I'll do that right now.

    Thank you!

  17. 3 minutes ago, Colu said:

You should do a small daily water change of 25% till you ammonia and nitrites come down to zero

1 minute ago, James Black said:

Your molly that is sunken in might have parasites, treat with paraclense. Yes do a waterchange. I cant see the nitrate numbers in the first picture but if its 10-20ppm its okay. Plants will help with your water parameters, especially floating plants.

Okay, daily water changes until I see numbers come down. Got it.

Can I treat with Paracleanse while doing this? Or should I treat after the water changes? She is in my 20 gallon in a little quarantine basket.
