Is this to be expected when adding plants?

Dwarf Sagittaria has been in my tank for 3 weeks, Amazon Sword and Java Fern about 5 weeks. Is this a normal process or is something going wrong? Do plants grow better if you introduce many at a time?

This is all very normal. It is just that your plants are melting, or adjusting to new water parameters. Or if you purchased tissue cultures, these are usually grown out of the water so they go into shock once they are emersed. Regardless, it is normal and your plants should recover! Java fern is a pickier plant and loves a lot of potassium -- if it keeps struggling, up those ferts!

Thanks! How long does it typically take for the Dwarf sag to start branching out? I want it to carpet, should I add more?

You can add more dwarf sag or just add root tabs, once it gets going it should take off and start sending out runners.
