Cichlid Breeding Tube Angle - male or female

Hi, 

I wanted to get some opinions from cichlid keepers and breeders.

I read that if the breeding tubes of cichlids are pointed more backwards, that it means female.

And straight down would be male.

I currently have a red devil with a breeding tube that points backwards.

How true is this in your experiences?

It's the size difference from my experience with spawning cichlids never seen a females egg tube pointed back.
