5.5 Gallon Undergravel Uplift Tubes: Do I want one or two?

Recommended Posts

I'm trying out an undergravel filter in a new 5.5 gallon aquarium. Do I really need two uplift tubes? Back in the 80's, I had an old 5.5 gallon tank that only came with one in the back right corner. It seems to me that may still be sufficient. Anyone with experience or thoughts?

I have a 50+ gallon tank with only one...  I think you will be just fine with the one.  The increase in flow is going to be minimally helpful, especially if you are using airstones as I imagine to generate the lift.

If you can do 50, I can do 5! I do plan to use an air stone. Thanks so much!

Well my tank is also a heavily planted hybrid walstad, so the entirety of the dirt substrate AND the plants are also acting as a filter.

But yes, I think you will be more than ok with one uplift tube in a five gallon.  That real-estate is precious!
