John Collins
I'm trying out an undergravel filter in a new 5.5 gallon aquarium. Do I really need two uplift tubes? Back in the 80's, I had an old 5.5 gallon tank that only came with one in the back right corner. It seems to me that may still be sufficient. Anyone with experience or thoughts?
daggaz
I have a 50+ gallon tank with only one... I think you will be just fine with the one. The increase in flow is going to be minimally helpful, especially if you are using airstones as I imagine to generate the lift.

Thanks so much!
daggaz
Well my tank is also a heavily planted hybrid walstad, so the entirety of the dirt substrate AND the plants are also acting as a filter. But yes, I think you will be more than ok with one uplift tube in a five gallon. That real-estate is precious!
John Collins
No walstad here, but I'm using this new tank to experiment with pothos, so that plant will be doing most of the heavy lifting. Thanks again for your help.
