TJ _isme
I want to setup some more tanks for breeding and whatnot and sometimes air pumps can get pretty hot, I was wondering if a corded pc fan would help to keep it cool, maybe extend its lifetime. if somone has done this or tips or has any comments or anything please comment
gardenman
It won't hurt and might help. Heat is the enemy of anything electronic. The cooler you can keep things (within reason) the longer it'll last. Will you save money in the long run? Probably not. The electrical cost of running the fan, the cost to buy the fan, the lifespan of the fan, and those costs versus the lifespan of the air pump without the fan probably wouldn't show a big difference. Air pumps aren't grossly expensive to replace. They're often cheaper than a corded PC fan, especially when you get into the higher-end PC fans like a Noctua. The big failure point of most air pumps isn't the electronics, it's the rubber. The diaphragms and little flapper/check valves are what tend to fail, and the fan probably would have no impact on them.

If the air pump is 50$ and the cooling fan is 15$, do you think it is worth it?
