  1. One time I needed to catch a Siamese Algea Eater that I bought without researching. That guy was a tough'n to catch. But I made a trap out of a fish oil vitamin container and a sandwich baggie and got 'em pretty quick. This pleco wasn't actually too tough once I got out the zucchini.
  2. Yeah, I just use them to see if anything is WAY out of wack. I'll either do the liquid test or take it to the LFS for more specifics. But I was just kinda wondering of you have to check it at exactly 30sec or if there's a window.
  3. So, you know how on test strips, a couple of the squares you read right away, and a couple of them you read after 30 seconds... But how long after they come out of the water are they still accurate? Like, a minute or two? I'm thinking specifically of the nitrates square. At 30 seconds they don't show any nitrates. But after about a minute they show about 40 ppm.
  4. I wanna move an albino bushynose from a heavily planted 55 to another tank. Do y'all have any clever tricks? I put a piece of zucchini on a marshmallow stick. Hopefully it'll coax him out. Seems everyone else is really in to it though.
  5. My tanks are all pretty tame. Just easy, smallish fish.
  6. So, I was rearranging my 55 planted community tank the other day, and I legit cleared the whole downstairs. I noticed I was getting a sulfur smell, but the kids all ran away screaming. Sure, there were a bunch of turds and stuff... I mean, it didn't wreak, but it didn't smell good. But do you guys' tanks ever stink? Like, just doing a water change, it smells a little earthy. But that's cool, right? I only had the super farty water this one time.
  7. Hey, kids. Are there any fully aquatic, community friendly crabs? I think I can remember having something like that when I was a kid. I've seen the fiddler crabs and the red claw crabs at the pet stores, and I think something like that might be fun crawling around the bottom of my tank.
  8. pH is 7.5 both on my test strips and my liquid test. Nitrates are only at about 10 with my liquid test, and don't register at all pretty much on my test strip.
  9. Yeah, that's valid. I'd hate to mar up a lovely forum. I shoulda read the thing first...
  10. I have some bamboo shrimp that are pretty hungry cuz my water is too clean. (Humble brag) Can we trade stuff here?
  11. I've got root tabs in the substrate and I've been dosing API Leaf Zone as directed. I know that's not comprehensive, but I'm still just learning. My API test strips say KH is about 120, and GH is 180+. My liquid API test says GH is about 9 drops. And the KH liquid test is about 7 drops. (Though I'm still learning what those mean too) I've just been trying a bunch of different plants, but I figured since I'm here I should take advantage of all your knowledge.
  12. I'm trying to learn to grow good plants, instead of just buying new ones when the old ones die. I'm not even totally sure what this plant is, but can you guys tell me what might be causing the yellow spotting? All my other plants seem to be doing well.
  13. So I got a MagFloat cleaner with some other miscellaneous stuff from CL. One the outside-of-the-glass surface looks like felt or something, like every other magnetic cleaner, but the other side looks like the hook side of velcro. Is there supposed to be a pad that velcros on or something? Or is that just what the business end side looks like? I can't tell from online images cuz the two halves are always clamped together or it just looks plain black.
  14. Hey, Mr. The Fishman. What do you think of that Stingray 2 now that you've had it for a while. I just put one on my 55 long and I'm worried it's too much light and things will get out of hand. I'm just growing easy stem plants mostly. Do you think it's too much light for a Low-tech aquarium?
  15. Hey, y'all. So I have a 55 long with mostly stem plants and a couple swords. (anna buncha fish) Inert substrate with root tabs, no CO2, settled in at about 10ppm nitrate. I had a 36" light on there and the plants at the edge weren't growing too well. The stuff in the middle was doing pretty well though. It was a cheap NICREW ClassicLED. I wanted a 48" light and went with the Stingray 2. But it seems really bright now... I like it, but do you think this is way too much for my setup? In general, is the S-2 considered Medium Light? I know there are variables, like depth and what you want to grow... But would a S-1 be better? I really like the low-tech, low maintenance tank. I don't want to have to dose a bunch, or run CO2, and trim every two days. I could return the S-2 and get a S-1. Or any other 48" light really. I don't mind spending a little money, but I don't need anything fancy that I can control with my phone or whatever. I appreciate any advice or recommendations.
