  1. I had the same issue some months back. I diagnosed it as hole in the head. And treated the tank out of paranoia. I did a treatment as it calls for it, as far as dosing goes.  But I did the Cory and treated the tanks once and see where I was in 3-5 day did a 30-4o% water change and dosed again. It cleared it up. Only thing I wish I would have done was put him in another tank to medicate. But I guess it was a bath for the others just in case. It will turn your tank cloudy for a day or two then goes away. I tested the whole time and the levels stayed safe.
gabe pasada from wattley suggests to add metro or praclense to the food every three months or so for a precaution to keep parasites down in the fish. Especially if you feed blood worms idk. Seems like a good idea. I guess he does know what he’s talking about lol. Good luck.

Every time I dose Para cleanse, I get the exact same thing. The next day it gets super cloudy, then over the next day or two it clears up. I always wait it out and it seems harmless. Seems to work as best I can tell.

Do you also do the dose on day 3 ??

  3. Hello all. It been awhile. I been so busy lately. But still tanking. I have discus tank that has three larger discus. Tomorrow is officially four months.  Tonight I measured one at like 4.6" or so.  Not a ton of growth as I did two levamisole treatments the second of which clammed them up for nearly two weeks.

They are just starting to get a good appetite again.

Finally lost the smallest straggler, but the other non-eater has had a real good rebound and is growing well.  So down to eight fish, which is OK.

They should take off running this month, though we are leaving for six days.  They will be fasting during that time.  Pictures don't really do them justice, but here are some. 🙂

I wish mine were growing like that. Your doing good man. Mine all good eat well just growing ultra slow. So I have decided to not to focus on that and just keep them healthy and they grow as they grow. Cause it could drive a person crazy.

  6. Just did a feed for everyone. Now that I’m somewhat successful at some tetra and pleco breeding I have to build a new grow out area with a brine station.  Wasn’t really prepared for it to kick off like this but even my wife is excited and told me to get building a grow area in the other empty room we have. Ah ok! I’ll start with 4 , 20 talls and see where that gets me. Can’t wait to take some pics and share with you guys.

I guess I should say the fish I’m going to start breeding are Columbian Terra’s , bueno Aires tetras, leopard danios and of course my super reds and browns plecos.
i even have some really nice white clouds I’m thinking about. I’m excited.

I measured one of the biggest three smack at 4.5 after three months.  I'll measure a couple again around 4 months.  I am in the middle of treating the whole tank for hexamita with metronidazole and the smallest non-eater started passing white stringy poop.  I haven't seen him poop ever, so maybe that's a good sign.  About another week of metro.  Have a blanket over the tank for the duration (other than water changes), so I have no idea if it's eating or not.  But it's passing *something* and I guess I take that for a good thing.

How often and how much water are you changing?  How do yours eat?

Water changes are 40_50% every 2-3 days. And food is krill flake, brine , bloodworms and beef heart 3 times a day or more and more in the weekends.
    nitrates 0, nitrites 0, ph 7.5

i did some reading and it seems like they want you to keep 2.5 ones in a smaller (20)tanks untill they reach 4.5” then they say go to(30) until 6” idk

thinking about putting them in a smaller tank for a bit. Like i said idk what to do.

Also I hope your discus get better and stay better soon.

  8. Any growth with your discus? I’m at a loss. I don’t know what more I need to do I can not grown them out.  One has gotten fairly big if the others were there I would be beyond happy. I now one is stunted for sure. But the others seem ok. Just not getting very big. Hate to start monkeying with things but I’m afraid I’m gonna have to to start to try other things.

Inspired by your build, I am going to try to find something similar at Target today.  Hopefully I can make a little fry box to clamp on the side of the tank.  This is such a great idea, and really resourceful!  Thanks for sharing it.

That’s the fun isn’t it. Coming up with something. Brainstorming. Love it. Good luck

I am surprised the co-op doesn't have these!  Seems like a perfect replacement from what the saltwater guys have to something we needed on the fresh side.  How have you felt about the purchase using yours?

    Oh.... it's worse now. 😕

The original location, if we are standing in front of the tank looking at it. the front left leg was 3/4 inch off level (left to right, and front to back which made it difficult to shim).  The back left and front right legs were off about 1/8-1/2".

On the new locations, I've placed the tank into it's spot, the floor itself slopes about.... 1/2-3/4" left to right on the tank. The shims work, it's "fine" but I was basically maxing out the adjustable legs on the stand.  The issue with the new location, apart from no power, is that it's directly next to 3 windows and if I mask off the side of the tank, you'd basically never be able to enjoy it.

Contemplating a new location, but at this point I'm going to end up with two tanks in my room and no desk to do any work.

Also, the composite shims I have, I haven't trimmed them, but the surface of the tile is very slick because of the "shiny" sealer they put on it.  Even with the tank full of water it was able to slide. Having the tank be in a location with minimal "accidental bumps" is now a priority.  I do have some wood shims, and I'm contemplating using those to add a bit more friction.  I also am contemplating running 2-3 of the ACO batter powered pumps during the summer just so I can have the tank set while we wait for the house to be painted and baseboards and all that to be finished. (still doesn't fix the floor issue)

    Decisions decisions...

I think..... I can use an exercise machine mat to give the shims/tank a surface to sit on, that might be an option!

I love it, a true hobbyist . Always finding a way to get it done. I guess that’s some of the beauty of what we do. Always trying to make it work. Good luck.

I spent the night getting yelled at for the tank, and the morning trying to actually finish setting it up. LOL

    What a mess.

Long story short, the floor still sucks where the tank is at and despite it being flat, I really don't trust the location.  Plan B, means I have to have an outlet put in a location that should already have one, but doesn't. The tank will end up being delayed for probably several months. We'll see.

In your previous location have you tried just shimming the low side of the stand.? My floor isn’t that level either and I bought some ceder shims to put under the stand and that made it good. Being off a 1/8 won’t kill ya either. But should be able to get it pretty close.  Good luck. Keep us posted.

  12. Their getting bigger! makes me happy to see these guys doin so good. Hoping to get a few good males out of here I have about 7 super red females and only one male my other male was sick for several days I couldn’t  get him to come around and he passed away. The good thing is 6 of the females are from a different breeder across the country so hoping to get a great strain of reds. Some of the plecos in the pic are some albinos that I had no idea I actually had till I saw a few in cave bonus!

Two of my favorite things happened today.

    1. I cleaned off the glass of the tank and it's in place, level, waiting.
    2. It has the background applies and it's literally just waiting for water.

    wow!

I really am looking forward to my "retirement tank" just being amazing discuss to look at.  Insanely beautiful coloration right there.

EEEEeeshhh... been a rough offseason for her.  Hopefully she is going to "enjoy" Russel's first game back!  I can't believe they let bobby go and were talking about others leaving too!

Sounds amazing can’t wait to see your tank set up.

What kind of fry are you raising?  I was trying to look at the statue decor you got going on too, but I couldn't see it all.

Super reds plecos in that one yeah it’s just a back round pic. You can probably find it online somewhere, it’s a common tank background

Three months with the discus now... I feel like this last month was pretty much lost, but looking at pictures I can tell they've grown.  And my in-laws who haven't seen them for a month thought they looked bigger.  So I know it wasn't lost.

However, it was really hampered by doing two levamisole treatments trying to get these two non-eaters to start eating.  I'm now resigned to probably moving them into a ten gallon together and seeing if I can get them rolling with higher temp and probably eventually metro.  One of them has started to eat some, but the other hasn't started.  Levamisole apparently makes them not want to eat.  They took these treatments two weeks apart relatively difficultly.  But most all of them are at least a little peckish, but I am told it can take two weeks to return to normal.

In any event, they almost all died when (apparently) our water switched over to chloramines.  I always put Prime in even if I age my water.  I forgot for about 30-45 minutes.  Just popped my head over to this (these were the best looking ones, three of them I thought were dead):

    image.jpeg.ece64352211d6700d5e5f1ca69331851.jpeg

If I wouldn't have just by chance gone back to look for no real reason (this was Friday the 13th), I think they probably would have been dead in the morning or at least most of them.  I plopped prime in and they started turning around pretty quick after that.  Also dropped in a bunch more aeration (even through there's already five air stones) over night.

So that's further complicated their recovery from levamisole.  However, today they seem relatively happy and are thinking about greeting me at the tank again.

    image.jpeg.fa4bfad0224194407a11b37bda75a50a.jpeg

Nothing makes me realize how dirty the outside of the front glass is like taking a couple of pictures.  I would be lying if I told you that I haven't thought about getting rid of them (because I feel like a failure when stuff like this chloramine deal happens).  I do not mind the maintenance, but I do not like feeling like I'm failing something I'm caring for...

In any event, they sure are beautiful fish!

Your doing a good job man. Unfortunately these are the breaks in the hobby . Just keep doing your best. And be patient. You got this. You deserve these little guys. And it sounds like you care a lot with all the effort your putting in. . Keep it up man.
