  1. My understanding is that if you put the prime in the bucket, then put that water to the tank, the prime will bind with the chlorine in the bucket water before anything in the tank has to opportunity to bind with it. If you put the water straight from the tap to the tank then if you only use enough prime for the replacement water then it may bind with things already in the tank (ammonia, nitrite, etc) and not have enough prime left to bind with all of the chlorine.

To get rid of the algea you already have you might add ramshorn snails. They will get rid of it.

I don't think that's a great idea with shrimp in the tank. They'd much rather eat any food that's being added for the shrimp than the algae. They're not very good algae eaters when they have any other option.

well, I know they don't breed & multiply in the tank, so I just wondered what was up

They can mate and lay eggs, but the eggs are not able to hatch in fresh water.

I have 6 nerites right now. I haven’t seen any eggs in the tanks they’re in, so I guess I won the Nerite lottery.

Me too. I currently have 6 and previously had 2 others and I've never had eggs. I wonder if it's somehow related to water conditions as well? 8 males and no females seems ridiculously unlikely.

I do like that MTS spend a lot of time in and turning over the substrate. But debating whether i should do ramshorn or MTS first. I already have bladder snails so I'm not very concerned by a population explosion or anything.

In my experience, ramshorns breed much faster than bladder snails. They're also a lot larger.

I soaked them in my Aquarium Co-Op Measuring Glass, and then dumped it in in front of a powerhead 🙂

In future I'll stick the dry cubes to the glass like Sera O-Nip tabs. Once they get wet they don't really stick.

I haven't been able to get my cubes to stick for more than about 30 seconds. I'll have to try presoaking. I don't have a powerhead, but maybe if I put it in the path of the ez flow that would work.

I tried feeding my new white cloud mountain minnows both freeze dried brine shrimp and freeze dried tubifex worms. I learned they will eat both easily, but will not eat from the surface. The food has to be floating in the water column to attract their interest!

How do you get the freeze dried food into the water column? Mine stays floating forever.
