I’ve got several fish who’ve been waiting to be moved in here!
You should be able to put them in still. Unless you want to be able to see them, that is.

I'd there are no fish in the tank, can there be detritus worms?
Yup. They can come in with the plants.

My understanding is that if you put the prime in the bucket, then put that water to the tank, the prime will bind with the chlorine in the bucket water before anything in the tank has to opportunity to bind with it. If you put the water straight from the tap to the tank then if you only use enough prime for the replacement water then it may bind with things already in the tank (ammonia, nitrite, etc) and not have enough prime left to bind with all of the chlorine.

We had about 80-85% here depending on which news source you asked. My 7yo thought it was amazing. My 9yo thought it was super boring. I thought it was interesting, but no where near as cool as totality would be.

We use the Terro ant baits. Never had an issue and they are phenomenal at getting rid of ants
Same here, but our ants don't tend to be in the same room as the fish tank.

To get rid of the algea you already have you might add ramshorn snails. They will get rid of it.
I don't think that's a great idea with shrimp in the tank. They'd much rather eat any food that's being added for the shrimp than the algae. They're not very good algae eaters when they have any other option.

My black racers do this way more than my other nerites. I won't see them for months then they'll be all over the place above the gravel for a few weeks. Rinse and repeat.

I think to be able to give any decent advice, we need to know what the objection is. Why didn't spouse want the 40 to begin with?
Is it a space issue? Money? Water damege potential? Time it takes you to deal with it? Fish creep them out? Something else?

well, I know they don't breed & multiply in the tank, so I just wondered what was up
They can mate and lay eggs, but the eggs are not able to hatch in fresh water.

I have 6 nerites right now. I haven’t seen any eggs in the tanks they’re in, so I guess I won the Nerite lottery.
Me too. I currently have 6 and previously had 2 others and I've never had eggs. I wonder if it's somehow related to water conditions as well? 8 males and no females seems ridiculously unlikely.

I do like that MTS spend a lot of time in and turning over the substrate. But debating whether i should do ramshorn or MTS first. I already have bladder snails so I'm not very concerned by a population explosion or anything.
In my experience, ramshorns breed much faster than bladder snails. They're also a lot larger.

I'm not familiar with that substrate. Could the nitrates be coming from that? And have you added any other fertilizers?
-
To me it looks like it could possibly be from the mystery snails. If a small clutch got knocked into the water before it had dried it could spread out like that. Are they the wrong size for that?
-
Have you checked the expiration date on the test kit? And is nitrite one of the ones where you're supposed to shake the bottle for a ridiculous amount of time before you use it?

I soaked them in my Aquarium Co-Op Measuring Glass, and then dumped it in in front of a powerhead 🙂
In future I'll stick the dry cubes to the glass like Sera O-Nip tabs. Once they get wet they don't really stick.I haven't been able to get my cubes to stick for more than about 30 seconds. I'll have to try presoaking. I don't have a powerhead, but maybe if I put it in the path of the ez flow that would work.

I tried feeding my new white cloud mountain minnows both freeze dried brine shrimp and freeze dried tubifex worms. I learned they will eat both easily, but will not eat from the surface. The food has to be floating in the water column to attract their interest!
How do you get the freeze dried food into the water column? Mine stays floating forever.

I also have a cat who likes to jump on top of the tank and the glass top has held her up just fine.

@jwcarlson There are a few classics I really like. Of Mice and Men and The Pearl, both by Steinbeck, are the first that come to mind.

I'm trying to read Pride and Prejudice for a book club and I'm really not enjoying it. I don't understand why so many people love this book.

Not a great photo, but we have baby guppies! We've spotted 3 at a time, I'm not sure if more than that have avoided becoming lunch or not.

I've had this red onion nerite for about a year and I've never seen it on the glass before. I did not recognize it from across the room and had to go check who it was.

Would it be possible to use each card in it's own transaction to buy a coop gift card, then use both of those in one transaction with a credit card covering the rest?
That may be more trouble than it's worth though.

Sharing algae wafers. This hillstream loach seems to be a little confused about where the food is.

I'm guessing that was a typo/auto correct of planaria.
