  1. Low PH and Over-cleaning…. Due to all the other things I observed, I thought it was Ich or something else going on.  I did lose a fish in the mess of it and all my plants died. Due to what I have learned here and from research, I added crushed coral and Wonder Shells and stopped “over cleaning.” Slowly water quality improved and the flashing stopped.  (I was over cleaning trying to siphon up any Ich or whatever I suspected was thriving in the substrate) Hope this helps!

How did this all turn out? I came across this thread looking for reasons fish flash. Been really helpful!

Just answered, but forgot to quote your post. Hopefully you see my reply. 🙂

    Yes.

You can mix a higher portion per batch (check Cory's video for his method) and it will be looser or more dense of a mix. If you're having issues with it setting just be sure to mix it really well. I do believe you can reheat it with some hot water and get it to liquify again. You'd have to use more powder, definitely an issue. Let me see if I can find a video.

I actually watched his video… he did 1 part food, 3 parts water but he used a community blend.

@SunniSki community is good. Sometimes I mix in some spawn and grow.  Some of my critters like soilent green mixed with super green. For your mix start with community kind of something for everyone

Oh and it’s crazy fun to watch the mystery snails push the shrimp out of the way when the crawl to the top of the stick.

Ok I got Soilent Green, problem is that it didn’t set and it’s very wet.  I mixed per the directions…. 1 part food 2-3 parts boiling water.
I used 1 tablespoon food and 3 parts water.  I’m sure I can decrease the water next time to 2 parts water, but has anyones not had their Repashy set.

I wouldn’t dose it daily. Just enough to get your aquarium cycled and have the established bacteria/plants do the rest (besides water changes of course). Ammonia spikes/cloudy water can be caused by a drastic increase in bacteria so I think you’re probably fine to not dose it every day. Plus it can get expensive if you’re treating the whole tank every day

I just was treating it the same as you would stability when trying to cycle a tank… 🤦🏼‍♀️

  5. I have a gravel tank but have always wanted sand.  Is a gravel or sand substrate easier to take care of?  I have several fish such as plecos and cory doras that would love sand.  I just have ZERO experience with a sand substrate and Im not sure if this is harder or easier to take care of.

So maybe if you buy a Betta leaf or make the jerky, that will float. Something you can suction cup to the glass.

Everyone here has such good ideas.

I will look into those tablets you are talking about.  Never heard of them.

Dip a bamboo stick in repashy. Jam the clean end in the substrate so it sticks up. All my fish pick it off the stick.

Genius!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Now I just need to find out what formula to use.  I have community fish, corydoras, shrimp, mystery snail, tetras, danios, mollys, alage eaters, gouramis.  Anyone have any suggestions?

  9. Next question… does anyone have suggestions to hold food that is not a clip to hold food such as this gel food.  This would be for my mid to high swimmers that don’t go to the bottom to check out the food.  This way I can share the wealth since the food sinks.

Silicone mini  ice cube tray or silicone  chocolate candy  molds works well.  I make candy and have old silicone molds that I used, and I freeze them. To set up, then remove them and add them to a ziplock bag marked with date. And keep them in freezer till use

You just drop them in your tank frozen?  Do they sink or float?

  11. I have used Ich-X for almost 8 weeks.... My silicone is a "beautiful ocean blue" 😒.  I even have a gray tall decoration that used to be gray...well its also been tainted with this beautiful ocean blue color.  Lets not even begin to talk about all the tubing and rubber seals on things.  I dont like it but there is no way I would strip my tank to re-silicone anything... thats to me is awful.

  12. How do you like using this food?  I considered getting it for my tank and preparing it in a square container and then cut it up in cubes and freeze it.  Then I am thinking, I would just be able to drop these frozen cubes in the tank like I do other frozen foods I already purchase?? I have been eyeing this product for a while, but I don't know that much about it.  I was actually looking at it yesterday again ....

They both do the same thing. Dosing amounts are just speaking to the amount of "stuff" per oz of liquid. There really isn't going to be a major difference, I just get whatever is available.

I've used tetra, aqueon, some other brand they had at petco, stability, whatever is cheapest. (No fritz stuff available locally here)

    Thanks!

Use old media or a sponge to get a faster start.

I can't, I literally tossed it all since it was "infested" with bladder snails and eggs.

bottle bacterial won't cycle a tank unless the bacterial  has an ammonia source to feed off most of the bacterial will die very quickly I have been keeping fish for over 20 years in that time have tried a couple of different brands of bottle bacterial and found no difference in how long it took to cycle a tank just a waste of money I like to just add small amount of food daily for a couple of weeks then gradually add a small group fish   every couple of weeks to allow the benefial bacterial time  to catch up

My Tank has been fully stocked for a year, the issue was that I tossed all my canister filter media and I assumed that the sponge filter in my tank would have enough to support the tank and was only expecting small dips here and there.  I have been dealing with Ammonia spikes now I'm dealing with Nitrite spikes.  Rookie mistake done out of frustration.

Embrace the snails 🐌 😁 I love them

I have a huge dislike for these things... I don't have any fish that actually eat them.  I have 3 assassin snails... well... 2, I cannot find the 3rd.... I don't know if its deep buried under gravel or what.  I cannot find the 3rd one.

Pretty sure I figured out they are nerite snail eggs. Now what's the best way to remove them or can I just let them break down themselves since they don't really hatch in fresh water.

Mine just remain there, I have noticed they do not disappear or breakdown.  The only way I can ever remove them is if I scratch at them with my nail. I'm sure in time they breakdown but I just look right past them and focus on the bladder snails that drive me insane.

  17. I'm not a expert here... but I have a Mystery Snail and I get these in my tank too.  I do think they are snail eggs.  Let's see if anyone mirrors what I say. Also, I only have one mystery snail so I don't they hatch.

  18. Let me start of by giving you a bit of a background on what is going on in my tank.  A few months ago I believe I introduced parasites and Ich in my tank with some new fish.  Meanwhile I had "pest" snails overrunning my tank which rode in on plants.  So in between 2 months of treating the parasites and then a fungal infection... with Ich-X, Maracyn and Paracleanse... and over cleaning my tank weekly and still seeing pest snails.... I made a grave decision due to my canister being overrun with Pest Snails.... I DUMPED All of my filter media in the canister filter.  I did have a sponge filter already in the tank which should have been well seeded and I also pulled the Matrix out of my canister filter and dropped it in a fine mesh bag (hoping pest snails wont escape) and put that in my tank.

I was thinking... yes it may throw things off slightly but I have a well established tank and a per-existing sponge filter running in my tank, things will balance super quickly.  BOY... was I wrong.  Rookie Mistake but I was so sick of the pest snails and they made a motel out of my canister filter, I made a rash decision out of frustration.  So let me get to the question... Does the coarseness of the filter sponge matter... I ask this because I purchased one from Top Fin before ever discovering the Aquarium Co Op site.... I have the large Top Fin sponge filter and I now see its not supporting my bio-load which I thought it would be able to.  Can it all be due to the coarseness of the sponge media and not having good water flow???

Here is the link to the one I own:

  19. I have a 75 gallon that I have been using Maracyn to treat a fungal infection.  I purchased the bulk jar which I is 75$.  I was thinking this bulk jar might treat 3 rounds of treatments if needed.  I’m on day 5 of my first round of treatment, and I feel I’m already half way through the jar.  Is there another drug/brand similar or the same to the Fritz Maracyn that might be more cost effective?

one of my white clouds still have “fuzz/cotton” on its face so I suspect I might need another round of meds.

I don’t want to setup a quarantine tank so I’m trying to find out what would be best to treat my entire tank.

  20. Does anyone have experience with Wondershells?  I need to raise the KH and GH in my tank but right now I’m also combating ammonia issues.  I basically crashed my cycle and I don’t know if the Wondershells will create any ammonia spikes or bacterial blooms??? I have snails 🐌 that their shells have pitting and wear/cracking.
