  1. I was away for work for a few days and came home to my puffer having this mark on the side of his face/cheek.  He is the only thing in the tank so I guess he ran into either equipment or the drift wood in the tank.  Should I treat the scratch?  If so what should I use?  He ate well this evening and my wife said he ate while I was gone too.  Thank you in advance.

  2. I have a 120g(48x24x24) that currently houses a fahaka puffer.  I have a Fluval FX6 on it for filtration.  The flow is good but it leaves dead spots in the front center of the tank and along the back glass.
I have a second FX6 that I could hook up, but I was wondering if this would be overkill and I should just get a powerhead/wavemaker?

Any and all suggestions on best flow in this tank to keep the sand clean would be great.

  3. We took in a 8-10 month old Fahaka puffer about 2 months ago from another local hobbiest.  Its eating great and everything seems to be fine with it, but I just found out that the original owner did not do any worm treatments(or any other meds) to it when it first arrived.  Should I take the puffer through meds now?  If so what meds?

The puffer is in a 150g tank by itself with some pants.  It's about 6-7" long and nice and fat with good coloration.  It eats everything I put in the tank(claims, muscles, frozen crabs, etc.).

    Thanks in advance.

  4. Thanks everyone for the warm greetings.

This evening as my son and I were feeding his tank we discovered several baby Panda Corys. The guppies reproduce almost weekly, but these are the first Panda Corys we have had.  They are small, but plenty big enough to not be eaten.

For the big tank I ended up caving in and picking up a group of 6 1-1.5" Parachromis Multifasciatus like my son wanted.  We are going to grow them out and keep a pair and a few friend are waiting in line to take the ones we decide to not keep.  I'm sure the plants will slowly be picked off, but my son and I are excited to watch them grow and color up.

You've obviously done a great job with your research before setting up and have a great eye for hardscape and plant placement! 🙂 Do you have any ideas on what you might stock for your 120g?? Best of luck.

Thank you!  a LFS near us has a tank of Central/South American Cichlids that my son loves.  I know that this tank, hardscape, and plants are probably not the best for them, so I am researching similar looking fish that will work well for our system.

  6. Hello everyone and glad to be here.  This past Christmas my 5 year old son asked for a fish tank.  This request sent me to YouTube to research what we needed and lead me to Aquarium Co-Op.  Watching the videos helped him and I setup a 20g planted tank with guppies, panda corydoras, and shrimp.  It’s a simple setup with a Fluval 3.0 light and an Aquarium Co-Op sponge filter, but the tank has been doing great with both the shrimp and guppies reproducing.  My son loves coming home from school and feeding his fish and even helps with some of the maintenance.
We have had so much fun with the tank we decided to get a larger one for my home office.  My wife was onboard with the idea once I agreed to get her a new dining room table.  This weekend him and I setup our new 120g tank.  Still messing with it and the equipment to get it where we want, but so far so good.  It holds water.
We are keeping this one simple as well and running a Fluval 3.0 light and 3 large Aquarium Co-Op sponge filters.  The only real difference between setups is we are running the new Aquarium Co-Op pumps on this tank instead of the nano air pump.

I’m looking forward to learning more about this great hobby from everyone and thanks for the help so far.

  7. My 5 year old son and I setup our new 120g(4ftx2ftx2ft) aquarium last night.  This is our first large tank so I had a question about heaters.  What size heater(s) would you recommend for this size tank?  We will be keeping Central American Cichlids, so the water temperature will need to be around 78.  During the day our house is around 75 and at night drops to 70-72 during the summer.  During the winter we keep it at 68-70 while we are at home and it drops to 65 at night and while we are away at work/school.  I have two 500w heaters I can use if needed, but wanted to get some advice from everyone.  TIA.
