As _Eric_ said if the probes are not next to each other it could cause problems like this. The directions say to keep them close as a redundancy feature,

Directions.....ha!  The probes were about 6 inches apart. I've never had any problems before (they's been that way for at least a year) Now the suction cups are touching each other so hopefully that's the problem. You all are the best!

I haven’t ever had an issue with my ink birds after a power outage.  What type do you have?

Mine are the ITC306A model. It switched off again last night (no power problems) so there might be something wrong with it. I’m going to move the temp probs around a bit today, but if it alarms again, I’ll change it out. I moved the Coop heater to a regular outlet.

  3. I use an Inkbird to manage the two heaters in my aquarium. I was just gone for 3 days and read on FB that the power was out for about 15 minutes the morning after I left. When I got home today, my thermometer read 63 degrees and the Inkbird was flashing E4. I’m assuming it never came back on after the power outage so the heaters didn’t come back on either. Luckily, my fish are all OK and the temp is very slowly coming up. I have a back up plan in case my power goes out for an extended period of time when I’m home-(during the cold MN winter is my big concern)  I guess I never thought about it happening like this. One of the heaters is a Coop heater with backup-but I don’t think the Inkbird let it do its job. I guess I will take the Coop heater off the Inkbird and keep it seperate so this doesn’t happen again. Any thoughts? I honestly thought the Inkbird would just come back on when the power came back up.

you can't find what you need locally, like you used to.

I would much rather buy locally-we had a pet store in town many years ago and I was so sad when she closed-she had a pretty good aquarium section. All the useful shops are closing their doors here and are being replaced with "occasional" shops-expensive knick knack shops that are only open one weekend a month. I get the drill bit situation-I can't tell you how many sets I have! I use the smaller bits the most and they either break or get lost  🙂

If you want the order to be placed, sit for ~3-5 days, and then be delivered at the same rate as a prime box, just order it regularly.  Having random, unmarked cars show up at the house for people "delivering for amazon" is a really serious concern for me.  They force people to use their own cars, don't have enough delivery workers, and I've had plenty of packages missing or damaged due to "random person" delivering an item.

I use Amazon quite a bit because I live in the boonies and it's easy. I must be lucky because one of their warehouses is in Minneapolis (not too far) and I frequently get stuff the same day or the next day at no extra charge beyond my Prime. That said, do I really need it that fast? Sometimes (OK, rarely, but I'm impatient 🙂 ) and the choices in my small town are very limited and I usually don't feel like driving into the "city". Example-I "needed" some black aquarium gravel earlier this week (no, it wasn't an emergency but I wanted to get my project done before going out of town next week). I went to Petsmart ( the only local pet store we have-it's 15 mi away so not too far) and they had no black gravel-lots of hot pink and purple, though. I checked 2 Walmart stores with no luck  which are about my only options, so yes I did order the gravel from Amazon and it was here the next day (60# in one cardboard box-I'm sure the driver was swearing at me) All my Amazon deliveries come via Amazon vehicles-though they did used to use privately owned cars to deliver around here as well, which was weird. All in all, I think all my delivery folks/services do a pretty good job. I buy things from a lot of different places and it seems like the different sellers are to blame a lot of the time when things are running late. I just ordered some stuff from the Coop on Wed and it was delivered this am by my mailman-can't beat that !    One other comment about Amazon is that the Prime price is going up-it will be $139 for me to renew, the "free" shipping was well worth it for me when it was $89/year, but I'm going to have to think about the $139......

above amazon link bundles the impeller, with shaft and rubber bushing, impeller seal, and motorhead o ring…

Thank you!  I just ordered this kit this morning and it should arrive in a few days (I love Amazon...). It seems to be working well this morning-good water flow and the fish all seem happy.

Fluval recommends replacing the impeller once a year.

I’ll try replacing the impeller before replacing the filter. Thanks for the suggestion. I used to always let the canister fill by gravity-not sure when we started filling it beforehand.T Maybe I need to reread all those instructions 🙂

It should be within warranty.... so if you haven't contact fluval. Good idea! Hopefully I sent my warranty stuff in 🙂

Secondly, out of curiosity what issues are you experiencing?

After I cleaned it, it took forever to get it back up and running-it just didn't want to pump the water. It would send up a little trickle, then stop and a few minutes later it would do it again. I double checked to make sure the impeller was seated properly and it was, everything was clear. I have an inline Fluval UV clarifier and I disconnected that just in case. Eventually it just started working (after many swear words and much hair pulling). Now I'm nervous that it will happen again and I won't be able to get it started. I live quite a distance from any "real" fish supply stores so I would just as soon replace it now than have it fail completely. I'm just looking for a filter with good reviews that will work well-I'm willing to try something different, but have had canister filters for many years.

  9. I have used Fluval 07 series filters (307 and 407) for many years. The last 2 have not lasted (maybe I'm being unreasonable, but I think they should at least last a couple of years). I have a 60 gallon freshwater tank and use multiple sponge filters in it along with the Fluval. My fish load right now is pretty light-a couple of big Rainbow Fish and 6  1-2 inch fish, but I am planning to put some more smaller fish in eventually. Anyway, I'm looking for recommendations on what kind of filter folks recommend. I've been looking on Amazon and there are so many different kinds now-submersible power pumps seem to have good reviews,( but I don't always trust Amazon reviews). Any recommendations are appreciated! Thanks advance!

It may be easier to spot treat with liquid carbon like easy carbon or excel. You could also get some Amano shrimp as they eat it. It may be easier on you to that

The entire sponges are completely caked with algae, I think they need to be replaced or soaked-I don't think spot treatment would be enough. And, I have some large Rainbowfish that love to eat shrimp (I've tried several times-they think it's their special treat when I try to introduce shrimp....)

  11. My sponge filters (3 large Coop sponges in a 60 gal aquarium) have been taken over by Blackbeard algae. (possibly due to some recent neglect on my part....). I'm thinking that if I remove and clean the sponges then soak them in peroxide it should kill off the existing algae? I'm working on my water conditions to discourage it from returning, but it's going to take awhile. I also have a canister filter in the aquarium so it will be OK if I remove the sponges for awhile. How long of a soak would be needed and is there an alternative method to get rid of the algae that you guys would recommend? After I clean the sponges I will tackle whatever is probably growing in the canister filter. Thank you!

from the design, My guess is that the ceramic shaft might be bent or it might not be in place fully.

New ceramic shaft and impeller assembly coming from my friend Amazon :)I was surprised to see some knock off brands selling replacements as well, not much of a discount though so I got the Fluval ones. The ceramic shaft I had on hand is actually for a 306/406 and the rubber tip is a different shape.

Using Fluval 405, impeller from a 307? I'm just trying to get it straight so I can look up the specs.“     Thanks for doing this! I should have guessed they wouldn’t be the same. I’ll order a new one so when it acts up again, I’ll be ready 🙂 As I recall from when I did this on my 307, it was a little tricky getting that rubber support out of the filter. Thank you, again!

it sounds like you need 1 or 2 tips that go on ends of the axle of the impeller. Sometimes buy a new impeller to get the tips is cheaper than buying 2 tips. Tips are different colors for different companies. When a red tip falls in the aquarium, it is easier to find than when a back tip falls in. The tips keep the impeller in line. When I hear that grinding noise, I think the impeller is not seated properly. Sometimes the tips stay on the axle, other times they stay in the socket, other time the split and disappear.

The black thing that holds the white rod (the axle?) (the impeller slides onto it) into the "hole"?  I do have a spare one I got for my old 307-I should check to see if they are the same size-quite a few things are the same between the 307 and the 407. I removed the "axle" but the black tip stayed in the hole-maybe the "hole" has stretched out a bit......Thankfully, right now it's working perfectly so I'm not going to touch it 🙂 Thank you!
