That's a beautiful aquarium art you have there.

here's a "quick 13min no cuts video of kinda feeding time" I just rolled. lot's of junk in water column I cleaned the glass for easier viewing 🙂

Sad news... #2 was gaining color looking healthy, still getting shoved around but otherwise healthy looking, it was fattening up etc. one morning is saw him in the corner not moving. My suspicions were correct he passed. Upon further reading I may be dealing with an "inbred/farmed"dilemma of some sort that I can not find any documentation about... I added more plants and hiding places that solved nothing.

So I still have #1 and the other two are getting along or so it seems. I think I might have to tap out on these discus. Who knew, when people are talking about it being difficult to take care of discus, who knew that it was behavior problems not water parameters or feeding.

Anyone interested in rehoming (#1), or (#3 and #4) or all 3 red marlboro  discus? If you take all I'ld be willing to let you have the 29gallon with 1 large sponge filter w/bubbler and 1 heater. I'll keep all the little creatures though.

By contrast you can tell these cute little guys really care about one another...

This was their introduction to the tank. They had all traveled on the road for 5 hours. The one at the bottom had a tough trip. Notice how they all stick around him. Also, off camera he immediately sunk to the sand when I put them in, two of them followed him down, they both rounded up the rest to bring them over and one of them would stay on the sand with him.

  3. Nice tank! Love the plants you have.

My main concern would be that window, I know you've blacked out 3 sides, any chance you can black out the top with full on canopy?

My fully planted tank was all blacked out on 3 sides like yours, there was one corner on the top, maybe 10% that allowed light in from a nearby window, low and behold algae sprouted from that corner, I cleaned and cleaned.. snails shrimp all nogo w/in 2 weeks of blacking out the top, it was all under control.

This is just my experience though. I'm sure our tanks are night and day so, grain of salt 🙂

Looks great! You want some bully discus?

Discus are extremely political and have a pecking order just like chickens. There is usually a dominant fish who enforces its dominance by bullying. Once you removed the first bully, it gave room for the second fish to become the bully. This is totally natural and there is no way to stop this other than to keep a large school of discus so that any bullying effects are very diffuse. It two pair up they do not try and enforce dominance over the other but instead mate and raise babies.

At about 12 the discus will school nicely and bullying is not a problem.

After they pair up, they will set up territories and tend to just guard the boundary areas.

Your discus could pairing up that is why your seeing the bullying have you not any breeding behaviour

Thanks for the feedback, you're the first 🙂

I wish that was the case, and I'm no expert... the big one keeps #2 in a corner 24/7 except for feeding time (he's too busy eating and I put plenty in there so #2 get some). I'll have to research more on breeding behavior to be sure though. I added more plants, it's only helped a tiny bit. #2 still has to cram in the corner in an awkward tilted position. I'm about ready to give up. Might have to turn one of my nano20long into a sump situation and put him in there. The smaller two #3 and 4 still duke it out a bit but they are very equal in size now, maybe that's the key... keep them separate until they grow up?

Hello fish friends! I'm Nico, 29yrs and residing in beautiful Lake Tahoe, California.
I've been keeping fish for almost a year now and loving every moment of it.
I have 4 tanks in my tiny apartment, 3 betta's and 4 goldfish as well as many snails, of course.
My initial interest was in aquatic plants, so i have a decent variety going as well as an interest in terrestrial plants.
Lake Tahoe provides me with amazing quality water, and for that im very thankful.
Though our local fish community is incredibly small, almost non-existent.
Online communities are not very enjoyable to me, so I am confident Cory's online fish family here will prove to be more beneficial for everyone.
🙂 I am excited to learn more and grow together in our passions for plants and fish keeping in general.

Oooo doggy, lake tahoe. Been a while. One of my best friends grew up there. Love it in the winter and in the summer. Hope you're keep'n cool 🙂 our backyard just hit 108f Had to bring the upstairs tanks downstairs to the AC living area.Sweating  to the oldies over here...

  7. I originally got seachem equilibrium for my plants and guppies because my water is so soft here in N seattle. I do not RODI, only carbon block filter and prime dechlorinator.

So water after filter is 3.5 PH when I add the equilibrium I can easily get to my desired PH and ALK as well - for BOTH my fresh and saltwater...

I think for a long term solution I might go Corey's rout of adding the crushed coral though. The equilibrium is working for now and I use about 1/4 teaspoon/ 5 gallons so it's cheap.

    Good luck 🙂

OH... ps  Corey has a video on the crushed coral someplace on youtube. I'm not sure I would add it directly to the main tank, maybe to a 5 gallon bucket with a pump and see if it affects the ph first...

So, funny story, I used to be a composites fabricator, and I actually can tell you how to fix it without replacing the entire top frame. Order some 1/8" thick abs plastic online, cut two strips about an inch wide, and use methylene chloride to glue one strip on either side of the damage. If you want, for aesthetic purposes, you can even cut down the melty bits and cut a piece wide enough to cover both strips and glue that on top of the gap to cover it. It probably wouldn't look half bad and it would save you from having to strip and re-silicome the whole top of the tank.

So I have this situation in pic below, can I run a couple of strips, top and side, using ABS glue to keep together or is my situation a possible complete replacement. I already tested, it held water no problem for a month and I did not notice any expansion, THANKS!

here is the build thread -> https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/the-worst-nano-you-will-ever-see.835923/

    Nice!

But seriously, is there something just a little off with me having two threads on two different forums? I'm not new to the internet but I can't say I know everything about it 🙂

    Thanks - Patrick

do you mind me asking why you are running 2 build threads for the same tank on different forums?

    Calling me out eh 😉

I don't think everyone here is over there and visa versa, also, am on a couple others. I would be missing some advice I just shared here about discus otherwise.

    I hope it's ok?

How's the nuvo 10 coming along?

  11. I got LIVE ROCK, REAL live rock from gulfliverock.com - THANKS FOR THE TIP!
I purchased 20lb, put any rock that had stuff growing on it (sponges, halimeda!, gracilaria) in one of my 20g longs pictured above, along with "dead live rock" so let's start the clock and see how long it takes the dead stuff to show any signs of coraline etc...
I put the rest of the real live rock "cooking" in a bucket
    Here's a pic
