If you recently introduce new fish into his tank it possible they bought a pathogen or parasite with them if you see no improvement after a full course of kanaplex I would recommend doing a course of paracleanse to treat for parasites that will cover all bases

Thank you! That's what I'm expecting honestly. All the neon tetras look healthy, but you never know what they could've brought with them from the fish store, so I'm just treating the whole tank and covering all the bases.

Mixing this many medication can cause negative reaction between the medication what I would do is is a large water change and run active carbon for 24hr to remove the medication and treat with Kanaplex it looks like could be any injury or bacteria if it doesn't have a fuzzy appearance kanaplex it more broad spectrum antibiotic treatment and I would add some Indian almond leaves as they have antibacterial and antifungal properties depending on the quality of the leaves you might have to add one leaf per gallon to get a benefial effect

I've got an Indian almond leaves, cones and bark in the tank, so that's all doing well, I'll just stick with the kanaplex then, doesn't look fuzzy or nothing. He just seems kinda lathergic. So I'll do the water change and so the kanaplex again.

He had Popeye not too long ago and I was able to cure that with eithromycin and kanaplex, this just seems like maybe it came from the neon tetras I got a few weeks ago. The tetras seem fine, though, so I'm unsure.

Pimafix isn't really a medication.  It won't hurt, but it might not have a desired result for this situation.  I just looked up the ingredients and it's a bay oil solution.

This would be the equivalent of having botanicals in the tank.

Well, between kanaplex, pimafix and erithromycin, it should clear everything up. The place I went didn't have anything specifically for ich, so I had to do what I had to do.

It's not ich in my view.  Might be a fungus issue.

Treatment would be maracyn (or erithromycin) as well as something like Ich-X and salt dips.

I would start by adding an airstone to the tank in addition to anything else you do.

I've got erithromycin in there as well, and I've got a sponge filter and a HOB filter, so there's plenty of oxygenation.

  5. Hey everyone, I've noticed my Betta has been fairly lazy recently. He's been hanging out in the front of the tank today so I can get a good look at him and I noticed this on his body. I know ich is white dots, but I noticed this today.

He's been mainly chilling at the bottom of the tank the last few days.

My water parameters are fine, all the other fish, shrimp, and snails in the tank are doing just fine.

Ive treated the tank with some kanaplex as a precaution, but any suggestions?

  6. So a fellow co-worker and I setup a community tank at work, it's been going beautifully honestly, with one exception, we always have an algae problem.

We get rid of one algae, then a week goes by, and a different kind of algae springs up. We do regular water changes, the light is timed and it doesn't stay on long, and we clean the tank regularly. We even have shrimp, snails and algae eating fish in there to handle it and yet there still always seems to be some sort of algae problem.

In your opinion, what's the best way we can fix this and make the work tank look better?

Blueberry is beautiful! I'm just a few days away from getting a betta and it could be either male or female depending on breed - the females of the breeds with very long, flowing fins are just stunning IMHO. I am happy to see another betta photo!

We love her! She's always keeping us entertained and smiling. She's more of a dog than a fish if I'm being honest hahaha.

  8. Well, not really an aquarium product, but an aquarium itself. Obviously these can be custom made, but ever since I was a kid, I dreamed of having a fish tank go along the top of my walls in a room, all around the border of the room. Kinda like baseboard, but on the ceiling part.

I know people who are in the model train hobby do this with a train that goes along the top of their room, but I think it could be cool to do it with a tank.

My only advice is don't put them with any other floaters or they might be drowned out (my water sprite did mine in). And they don't necessarily like a lot of surface agitation, so keep them away from the filter waterfall and sponge filter bubbles - if you're handy you can make a flowting corral out of airline tubing and plastic items, or they're available to buy.

Good to know! I've got a bubble wall in my tank and they've moved away from it! They seem to be doing okay as of now, although they've only been in for an hour or so!

Hi Justin, welcome to the forum! Do post some pics, we'd love to see your bettas!

It's crazy how much has changed in the hobby, isn't it? Before I took a big break from it, I never saw live plants in pet stores, but now they're available pretty much everywhere that sells fish. And it's so great how much information is available online.

Yes!!! Live plants were never a thing when I was last into it. Now, it's the only way I decorate my tanks! A lot of things have changed with Bettas too!

I remember growing up seeing them in the bottom half of a glass vase, a bowl, etc., now people actually care about their Bettas!

I've never had Bettas before, I usually always stuck with the usual pet store finds growing up, but a Betta has surprised me! They are literally dogs in water hahahaha.

I'll post some pictures here momentarily!

  11. So this is my first time keeping a planted aquarium, and all things seem to be going smoothly, I've got great color, great plant growth, etc. This is also my first time dealing with any sort of floating plant.

Everything I've looked up for Red Root Floaters seem to be pretty straight forward. They're pretty robust, easy, etc. So I'm glad that they should do fine in my aquarium with how I've been doing with my other plants. I guess my biggest thing is, is there anything you can recommend to get the maximum out of these little guys? Anything I should know in particular dealing with floaters? Really any help and discussion would be great! I'm super pumped about my new tank and am loving returning to the hobby!

  12. Hello everyone!

My name is Justin, and I'm from Pittsburgh, PA. I'm 30 years old and just got back into the hobby as I introduced my 10 year old to her first Betta fish. I used to keep fish with my father growing up as a child, and have always enjoyed the hobby. Of course, that was back in the 90s, and a ton of stuff I thought I knew and cool is now all old and washed up, like gravel bed filters hahahaha.

So now I've found myself returning to the hobby and wanting to learn as much as I can to help educate not only myself, but my children, and to also keep my fish happy and healthy! Once we move, we plan on getting a bigger tank to start our community tank, and I'm super happy about it.

Right now, we just have 2 Bettas and 2 Nerite Snails. The Bettas name's are Blueberry (Female) and Branch (Male), and the Snails are Bert and Ernie!
