I love it. Thanks so much for sharing! Let me know if you ever have any questions about scuba certification. 😉

Oh yes! Going scuba diving at the great barrier reef in Australia is #1 on my bucket list for the future !!

Fins can rip for an umber of reasons. No telling for sure if it was caused by the mark on you noticed before. Sometimes fish "flash" on surfaces if something is irritating their scales or fins. It's possible the guppy scraped the tail apart trying to sort of scratch and itch. But that's all wild speculation.

Your issue now is that the damaged tail runs the risk of getting infected, and your fish is at some risk of getting stressed, growing lethargic, swimming improperly, etc. Lower causes of stress. Take care not to overfeed. Watch it carefully. Change out some water, and consider using something like Stress Coat for your water treatment.

Many times, guppies recover and all is well. I've had a few go downhill though too. Just kind of part of the cycle of life.

Okay, thank you so much. I have some maracyn as well. Do you think I should dose that if I start seeing any type of infection starting?

  3. So I recently posted that my male guppy developed a raised dot on his tail overnight. The parameters of the tank are 0 ammonia, 20ppm nitrate, 0 nitrite. Temp 77. Ph 7.8.

No one has responded to my other post yet and while i was checking on him I noticed that the red raised dot is now gone and there is now a peice of his tail missing where it was. I'm so confused as to what this was and why his tail split where the dot was within hours. Any help?

To be a bit more clear what I mean by "near zero," I basically mean "zero." But both my tests (API master kit with test tubes and API quick test strips) require that you read results by matching colors to a chart, and I always find that sort of vague and challenging. But the results came out as close to zero on the color charts as my eyeballs can figure, given that the test doesn't give you total precision.

I understand even small amounts of ammonia and nitrite can be a problem. My trouble is I need to carefully weigh the pros/cons of messing up the medication process with water changes.

    Thanks!

Did you ever figure out what this red spot is? My guppy developed this on his tail overnight and no one is responding to my question on what it is. Thanks!

  5. Just got some new guppies and this 1 male developed a red raised dot on his tail overnight.

    Tank parameters are

    • pH - 7.8
    • Nitrates - 20
    • Hardness - 150 ppm
    • Nitrite - 0
    • Ammonia - 0
    • KH/Buffer - 100ppm
    • Water Temperature - 77

I know the picture is hard to tell. Just let me know if yall need another one. Any ideas of what this is?

  6. My brother just got a 20 gallon high. 16" High. He wants a school of fish and a bigger centerpiece fish. Having trouble thinking of a centerpiece bigger than dwarf cichlids that would fit in the tank. Any suggestions?

Did the water have a sulfur smell when you removed the rock?

    Not really

They will fight until they pair up (if they pair up). This seems normal. Are they both mature ? It is best to have them in a large aquarium until they pair; once they pair things will be much more mellow between them but as for other fishes in the aquarium - avoid anything that stays near the bottom for best luck 😉

Yes they are both mature and i currently have them in a 55

  9. So i have a male and female kribensis moliwe in my tank and the male will not stop attacking the female. Every time he sees her he chases her away from his cave until she hides as well as not letting her eat. Is this normal krib behavior or no?

Are you planning to sell the guppies you raise, or do you only care about pleasing yourself? Where I live it is hard to find red guppies: red flamingos, albino full reds, etc. From other threads I’ve heard solid color guppies sell well, so if I was choosing for sale-ability I might choose red flamingos. Another option might be double sword or lyre-tail types, as people love the tails on them. Check out Japan Blue Double Swords for example.
You can see some of my double-sword type tails in these pics:

I was looking to sell, I was thinking either cobra or a lyre-tail strain

Looks like shrimp eggs to me. Females will drop them if stressed. Any big changes to the tank recently?

Had a little nitrate problem, fixed it with a water change that probably stressed them a bit. I've never seen the eggs dropped before so that's probably what it was.

I would consider an african butterfly fish and a few of the smaller synodontis catfish. Im thinking a west-african themed tank since you already have the kirbs and the congo tetra.

I do like the look of the dwarf synodontis catfish a lot, gives a different look other than cory cats

  13. Stocking a 45 gallon with a pair of kribensis and about 8 congo tetras, anything else yall would recommend or is that about it. My water is pretty hard so i wanted to do a hard water tank instead of using RO water like i always do. Any suggestions appreciated!!

Shouldn't be a problem. Here's a video journal we made when my son bred Kribs for BAP...

And here's a video of the fry once they'd colored up a bit...

Be prepared: the fry take FOREVER to grow out.

Thanks so much!!! Those kribs look gorgeous as well!
