  1. I have 10 kuhli loaches and 8 corys in a 29 gallon and there is plenty of room for more.  Even with 10 kuhli loaches, I rarely see more than one or 2 swimming around....they love to hide.  You could add 50 to a 75 gallon and with plenty of hiding spots and plants you would never know.

Just an opinion, I'm not an expert.

  2. Anybody have luck with seachem matrix in helping lower nitrates?  I'm having to change water weekly to get it below 100 and I'm getting tired of it. Sorry to admit that the maintenance is making the work to enjoyment ratio hard to swallow.

I have a 29 gallon with eco complete using an undergravel filter.

I have 3 good sized swords and black beard algea growing..

I was hoping Matrix might help, any experience or other solutions that don't involve more water changes?

  3. pH is a little low at 6.6, my tap water runs 7.4.  Nitrates are high...really high...off the chart.  I will start out with small water changes.  All other checks were in line. I am looking for some siamese algea eaters.  Thanks

  4. Hope everybody has been well.  Not only have I been away from this forum, I've been away from my tank.(29 gallon).  I haven't done a water change in months and blackbeard algea has taken over....can't even recognize the driftwood.  I have guppies that are breeding,  about 7 albino Cory's, 10 kuhli loaches.  I'm going to scrape the glass, scrub the wood and treat withe hydrogen peroxide.   Anything else I should do besides taking more responsible care?  Any chemicals that would help?

  5. I currently have water lettuce in my 29 gallon.  I added 2 powerheads to increase filtration through my undergravel filter and the water lettuce doesn't like the increased flow and is slowly dying off.

Is there a floating plant that will tolerate an aquarium with slow to moderate surface flow?

    Thanks

  6. I have a 29 gallon with an under gravel filter with about 3 inches of substrate. (Eco complete)My nitrates have been real high.....off the ati chart.  I have done 2 60% water changes and vacuumed the gravel and got the nitrates down a little.  The tank is planted and I don't add fertilizer due to the high nitrates.   Is there anything else I can do besides more gravel vacuuming and water changes?  Should I still fertilize with a already high nitrate?

Ps.  My albino cories like the water changes....eggs everywhere with at least one baby bouncing around the bottom.

  7. I'm going to be out of town for 10 days later this month.  I purchased an Aquarium Coop auto feeder and want some owners help.

My fish are mainly about 30 guppies, 5 neon tetras, 5 white clouds and 10 albino cory's.  All in a 29 gallon.

All my fish love flake food but I don't know how well it dispenses from the feeder.  Is there a good pellet food that dispenses well?  Any other unique ideas?

    Any help is appreciated.

    Jim
