  1. I have a glass 55 gallon and an acrylic 36 gallon bowfront. I also have a daughter who is starting to walk/climb. Does anyone have experience securing aquariums to the wall so they won’t tip? Both are on wooden stands so I could drill into those and attach to the wall potentially. Though it will be a tight squeeze since I can’t move the tanks to do this. Is there anything I could do to secure the aquariums themselves to the walls? Any and all advice is welcome.

  2. For the best prices, I go to my local club’s yearly expo (in the last hour you can usually haggle for a good price when purchasing multiples). The monthly meeting is also a good time if I don’t want to wait. However, since your question specifically said sites I assume you want a website. I bought some bolbitis from Dustin’s fish tanks a couple months ago which came healthy, well packaged and in a larger than expected portion.

    Hello everyone,

You'll notice that there is a fish and invert swap forum now. You can buy/sell/trade/giveaway fish or inverts there. Review the rules carefully, aquarium co-op is not responsible and won't step in. You need 50 meaningful posts on the forum to see that forum. It also won't show up in the topic feed as I don't want buying/selling to become to main topic of this forum. The goal is to allow hobbyists to rehome stuff, sell off some extra fry etc. Maybe make enough to support their hobby. Competitors are not allowed, and full fledged businesses aren't either. If you have a website or retail store somewhere else where you are selling stuff, you're a business and not a hobbyist.

If you sell to local stores, friends, family, etc. That is not a business. You breed/buy the fish with the intent of keeping them as pets, not buying and reselling.

You can use the trader feedback once a transaction is completed. Threads where people are calling each other out, fighting etc. Will just be locked. This is very much a don't ruin this for everyone situation. This is a soft launch where only forum people will know about it. Lets not make this a regret to facilitate this.

Is this part of the forum still running? Is the YouTube membership required to be a part of it? I’m pretty sure I’m still on my way to 50 meaningful posts, but I don’t want to be disappointed if it is something that is already deactivated. Thanks!

Ok, I went back through my journal for purchase dates.

My two other black racers I've had since July of 2022. My red onion and my two horned nerites I've had since January of 2023. (The horned ones are still absolutely tiny!)

And it looks like I'd had the zebras longer than I thought. Probably 9 months to a year before they passed.

Oh that is so smart to keep a journal. I’m gonna start doing that! Seems like lifespan varies greatly and I just got lucky with a few of mine.

18 months is average.  Fir me some are 12 months some are 24.

Darn! I was hoping it was longer and the internet was using a conservative lifespan. Just like with the nerites. Thanks for the info.

  5. I recently looked up nerite snail lifespan online and I was shocked to find most places are saying 1-3 years. I have a couple nerite snails that I know I got on a Black Friday sale in 2018 from aquatic arts meaning they are 5 years old now. (Several from that group have passed away but a few have survived this long.) Just wondering is that 1-3 years lifespan in the wild? I honestly don’t think I took particularly good care of these ones, so maybe just lack of predators lengthens the lifespan and this is typical in the hobby. How long does everyone else’s nerites tend to live?

  6. Has anyone tried adding local botanicals instead of catappa leaves to their aquariums? (Specifically hoping to find someone in south Florida who has similar local plants to me.)  I'd like to harvest some leaves from my yard that way I know there have not been pesticides applied. I figure this would be a more environmentally friendly thing to do rather than ship leaves halfway across the planet. I have dried leaves in my yard already. 😅 I was considering trying with coco plum leaves, coconut husks, mango leaves, and FL avocado leaves. Looking for any input.

  7. Thanks for the response. I'm fairly confident this fish is male because I noticed breeding stars on his pectoral fins last spring. There is one fish in this aquarium that could be female, but I haven't seen any breeding behavior.

Also this fish has been a bit lethargic, so I think it might be an infection. But since he is a crown pearl scale I was wondering if they were prone to 'skin' conditions.

  8. Hello! Looking for advice on if there is anything I can do to help this eye regrow/heal.  It used to have a large telescope eye, but a few months ago it shrank and now has a cloudiness over it. There isn't anything really sharp in the tank that could have injured it except maybe a plant weight? He is in a 55 gallon with 2 other fancy goldfish. I have very fine crushed coral on the bottom, river rocks, and java fern. It is filtered by an aquaclear 70 and a sponge filter. I do a 30% water change every week. (GH 60, KH 80, pH 6.5-7.0, Ammonia/Nitrite 0, Nitrate 20-40 when measured before the weekly water change, temp 77 F). I did get a small ammonia spike after I used the med trio but that was after the initial problem and it seems to have corrected. I've used the med trio, then salt up to level 3, then tried Kanaplex usually with a week or so between treatments to see if it worked.

I noticed right before it shrank that the eye seemed really wobbly. So now I'm wondering if it is just a genetic issue and not a parasite. Just trying to see if there is anything else I can do.
