  1. I reached out to Dan's fish about the white patches and they said sometimes more active fish like Congos and Rainbows will move around a lot in the bag and will sustain injuries. So the Congo likely sustain injuries during the shipping process. I just kept things simple and dosed Ich-x every other day for a total of 3 doses. The white patches disappeared in a couple days. In the original pictures there was a vertical white line that went down the fishes' tail fin. Everything following the white line on the tail fin ended up breaking off, I'm guessing do to the injuries sustained while shipping. All-in the fish seems okay now though. No more white spots and Im expecting its tail to grow back soon. Thanks @Colu
  2. I have ich-x on hand. But I only have Maracyn 2. Will Maracyn2 work instead of regular Maracyn? @Colu
  3. I have plants and also have a brand new killifish in my quarantine tank with the Congos. Will salt impact the plants or the killifish? This is the type of killifish. https://dansfish.com/product.detail/5294/Aphyosemion-christyi-'Kinshasa'-Pair-(1M1F)-(Aphyosemion-christyi)
  4. Sounds like a plan. I will add aquarium salt and ich-x and will report back.
  5. Its looks like it might be fuzzy. Hard to be 100% certain. The spot on the body seems raised. Here is another pic. I will include a video too. thx @Colu
  6. Just bought some new Congo Tetras from Dan's fish. Dan's fish quarantines and medicates their fish. I just got my new fish in yesterday and I was surprised to see some white spots on one of the Congo Tetras. It doesnt look like ich. Maybe fungal? The fish is eating and swimming around normally. None of the other Congos have any white spots. I put them in a fully cycled quarantine tank that had no previous issues. Should I try to treat or just observe? @Colu
  7. I only had 6 juvenile Congo's and they all passed away within the last couple of months. Right now I have: 1 Congo Spotted puffer 1 Ctenopoma acutirostre 1 vampire shrimp 3 upside down catfish 1 ornate ctenopoma All are doing good and healthy. I think I'm just going to let my tank be healthy for a while an not make any changes in the near term. Eventually I might try another school of Congo Tetras. Of course they will be fully quarantined next time. 🙂
  8. The leopard and puffer are still doing great. The puffer is more active and is now eating its normal diet of blood worms and brine shrimp. Yes!
  9. @Colu I think we are good now! The Leopard is eating normally, he swallowed a whole cube of blood worms yesterday. His hole in head is also gone and hasn't returned. The puffer has only been eating snails. This morning I tried a frozen cube of cichlid delight and he ate it! I am also breeding shrimp and scuds for other live food options for the puffer. But my tank is in a much better place. Thanks @Colu Also, lesson learned the hard way. I now have a quarantine tank setup and ready to go. 🙂
  10. So I'll probably hold off on the crushed coral for now because my Leopard Bush Fish has been in the same water for 8 years and he seems to be doing okay with it. My tank really centers around him because his been in the tank the whole time Ive had it. Once he passes I will def do the crushed coral thing. I did a PH test before and after a 10% water change. Both were 6.6. So impact on PH from a 10% water change is minimal. I do a few small water changes a week. I think I just need to keep up on my water changes to prevent my PH from dropping too low.
  11. @Colu so using the API test kit I tested the PH in my tank vs my tap. tap: 7.6 tank: 6.4 When i change my water I usually do only 10% water changes to prevent fluctuations in PH. Could difference in my tank vs tap be causing issues?
  12. yea, i wonder if it could also be that some fish dont do well with my water's parameters. I have a really low KH, like non-existent KH and the PH drops a bit. Seems like certain types of fish might not be able to handle that stress well.
  13. Looks like my 6th and last Congo Tetra is about to go too. He is gasping for air and cant control his swimming.
  14. @Colu Lost another juvenile congo tetra. It seemed fine last night but this morning it was belly up. So the fish I have lost are 5 congo tetras and 1 leopard. They all were juveniles that came from the same LFS. I bought the congos maybe about 4 months ago and the leopard about 5 months ago. All my other fish didnt come from that store. The puffer and the ornate are from Dan's fish and my adult leopard is over 8 years old now. My 3 upside down catfish came from petsmart. So it seems like there might be a correlation here. Currently on 2nd round of prazipro and will finish the anti-biotic treatment tomorrow.
