It  sounds like you've been through the wringer and are doing a lot to get back on track.

Is that pH of 6.6 typical for your tank even before the upheavals caused by the broken filter and problem decor?

Since your tank has been through a lot in a short amount of time, I would doubly recommend quarantining any new fish in a quarantine tank before adding them, so you don't get into a situation where you have to put meds in the tank that will hurt or kill your cycle.

Yes my ph is normally on the lower side.

  2. As you may have heard my filter broke down a couple weeks ago, and I lost 3 of my acaras. After the paint decor killed my fish I removed it all and added new decor. I’ve had a sponge filter for a couple weeks now and my canister filter has been fixed since Tuesday and everything’s back to normal. My levels are

    ph 6.6

    Nitrate- 10

    Nitrite-0

    Amonia 0

    Temp- 78.2

Do you think I’m safe to add new fish either today or tomorrow or should you wait?

  3. Did a rinse with my filter in tank water today put it back together and it’s leaking everywhere!!!!!! It’s a Bio Master 350 by Oase. If it’s on it is actively sucking water out of tank and flooding over!!!! Anyone know what to do? Please help me! Worried about my fish and my carpet. Will update if we find a solution. HELP!!!!!

  4. I’m thinking of making my tank look more natural instead of having painted decor. So I’m going to remove painted stuff and add natural things, I know the co op does some things anywhere else that you would recommend. Is Amazon trust worthy?

  5.  No, I think I have found the  culprit. One of my decorations had been chipping, I removed it but paint in the water could have been what killed them. I’m going to deep clean my filter and gravel and do a 50 percent water change along with adding bacteria killer that’s what the co op said to do. Thank u for your help

  6. They were quarantined all of my fish have been not rapid breathing. It did lose its appetite and didn’t eat it rarely ever swam it just sat at the bottom of the tank. The other one that died had been normal all day and I walked in to my room and it was just dead laying with the bigger one. I had them for about a month

  7. Ok thank you. One more thing do you think I’m over stocked?
    I have 12 Odessa barbs

    10 silver tip tetras

    5 bronze corys

    6 mystery snails

    5 hatchet fish

    3 acaras now one

    And for aquatic plant

and one air pump that’s pumping air into three decorations

it’s a 75 gallon could it be a lack of oxygen

    Four not for

  8. Thank you for all you help. I thought it was a female it may not be. I have tested my water.

    Nitrate 5

    Nitrite 0

    amonia 0

    hardness 6

    ph 6.8

    clorine 0

    temp 76.4

My nitrate was at 30 so I did a water change. My large acara is sadly dead though found it with my smaller acara also dead 😞. Positing this info so I can hopefully save the last one. When I started fish keeping I never knew it would be so sad and stressful. I clean my tank I change the water. I make sure they’re healthy. I really don’t know what I’m doing wrong. Help would be appreciated. Love this forum I normally always find an answer

  10. I have three EBAs. One large female and 2 smaller ones a male and a female. My larger one ate her breakfast like she always does but since then has been laying on her stomach at the bottom  of the tank sometimes she will swish around. I put my net in to see if she would swim normally and she does but then she just rushed back to that spot and lays there i really hope she’s nesting and doesn’t have a disease.tested my water paremeters and temp and everything’s fine for a EBA. Please help! Thank you. When she swims willingly without me putting a net in the tank she stays really close to the spot and opens and clothes her mout a lot

  12. My water prematures are Amonia 0 Nitrite 0 and Nitrate 5 ( I did a water change yesterday before adding my fish and my water is 76 degrees f. My ph is 6.8

Also there was rapid breathing when I could find him. But after last night he is nowhere to be found so I’m afraid I can’t post a picture. If he died last night do you think my fish would have eaten him and could what he have had been contagious

  14. Hi! I finished my tank today and added my final touch black spot hatchet fish, the smallest one of the group has been acting strangely, swimming upside down and sideways sinking floating at the top, will he survive and what could it be that’s making him do this I have a feeling that it could be swim bladder disease but have no clue how to treat it, please help! Don’t want to loose this little guy

  15. When I went to the co op and showed them my list of fish they said it would work, but when using a fish calculator called AqAdvisor they said it would not work. So my question is do fish calculators work? I have a 75 gallon tank 48 by 20 by 18. And here was my list

    blood parrot cichlids x1

    angle fish x2

    kuhli loaches x7

    diamond tetras x7

    electric blue acara x2

(I have a oase biomaster 350 filter and the calculator is telling me I need more filteration)

  16. Hi! I am new to fish keeping and new some advice, my tank has been set up for 3 days now, I am getting live plants today, and I am using a canister filter, my tank is a 75 gallon and I am having so trouble figuring out when to put fish in, some websites say 4-6 and others say 1-2. Just curious on what ya’all would do. Thanks!
