  1. Thank you all. I suspect the water at the source is the culprit. We had to move temporarily to another home. Ours is being demolished and replaced. I know the landlord has well water. There is a filter on it, but have no ability to fix the problem. My fish were doing great back at my house, once I got the different parameters taken care of. I am going to try weekly water changes. Maybe the rest will hold on until we get back in our new home or.....
  2. Unfortunately, before I got to get back to my tank I lost about 15 or more of my prized Japanese Goldfish. Ai lost a bunch of guppies, platys, algae eaters, a shark, and God knows what. I bought a bunch of guppy fry las5 week but didn't "quarantine" them. On Sunday, we changed about 75% of the water. Used an anti ammonia product and something move. Chloramine & Nitrate. Water parameters.was.good after that, just woke up to see up today to see many of my fish struggling. Also, when changed the water I changed filter components. 7 weeks ago, I thought I went through the cycling process. Temp is.77* constant. Have 2 canister filters. Going to try some Mela fix (?) for a couple of days. Tomorrow, if you like, I will send a picture. I am seriously thinking up the hobby. it's become to much like full time work. At 74, maybe its for the best. Thank you. Buddy Temp
  3. Hi everyone, this "Wizard" is near out of his mind with my fish not looking good. I have a 125 setup, community tank. My Goldfish appear lethargic as well as having the milky substance all over. Breathing also seems problematic. I did a 75% water change last Monday. I changed internal in my canister filter, new ammonia reliever, charcoal and something else for nitrite removal. Plenty of continuous aeration and a bunch (4) bubble filters running 24/7. Often times, the Goldfish congregate near the bottom of tank. Now there appears a smell coming from the water. I hope to do another water change and treat for possible bacterial infection. The rest of the community appear healthy. However, all the live bearers are at the top of the tank. The algae eaters on bottom. Thinking this is too much for a old wizard (74). Thanks for any help you can render.
  4. Thank you very much. I needed your suggestion and will follow it. Appreciate your help.
  5. I need help cycling a new 125 gallon tank. Do I really put REAL ammonia in my tank to get it going? When I transfer all my babies, do I need to bring some of their current tank water with them??? Under the gun here, have to move in less than 2 1/2 weeks, major construction. I need to get my 125 up and cycled if possible. My friends Goldfish, guppies, Mollies, platys, angel fish, dwarf gourami, 2 dwarf, PLECOS & 1 PLECO about 6 to 8" long..... They are currently in a 55 gallon (most) and either 29 or maybe 39 gallon tanks. I wish to put all.my "friends" in 1,,125 gallon tank for about 6 months. Oh yes, the tanks are multi aerated with a Sunkun (?) Canister filters and 2 aqua something or another in the 55 tank. It's heavily planted. The 29 has most of the smaller fish, Oops forgot the Betta.v The filter is a Marine World 400 (9). All filters have sponges on intake pipes, charcoal (fresh), ceramic balls (?), multiple filter pads. So, that's that. When we move back I want to use the 125 for the Goldfish and then the larger Plecos. Then I want all my smaller friends in a 90 gallon tank. So, I haven't a clue how to begin??? 2nd. If you do successfully "cycle" a tank, doesn't frequent water changes (every 3 weeks) change this cycling thing??? Thank you all and Good luck offering me suggestions. I tell you at times this hobby is not for the fish, but rather, "for the birds" EEK.
  6. Hi friends, I am just a friendly 73 year old Wizard from Upstate NY. As a "Wizard" who doesn't know much about anything, I am amazed at the changes in this hobby in the last 40 to 50 years. At times, in the last 6 months, I have seriously wondered have "I made a mistake." There is so much to learn, and perhaps more importantly "unlearn." Just want my fish to be healthy & happy. So, here goes everything. BTW, I started with a 55 gallon set up, my Goldfish are growing up to fast &;too big. After I move, they'll be upgraded into a 125 gallon. The remainder mixed "livebearers" will ultimately make it into a 90 gallon tank, love my guppies, mollies, swordtails, platys. How the heck did I accumulate so many in such a short time. This Wizard is a maniac lol. Just wanted to say HI, well you guys sorta asked for it, yes? lol.
