  1. I just got a delivery from them yesterday. The packing tape they use goes completely around the box and states many times "Live Tropical Fish".

Also per what I take to be common USPS practice it left a distribution center at 739am on Wed and then arrived at that same center at 348pm on Thur. guess the fish needed a tour of the town lol. Then it got sent to my town and delivered on Fri.

  2. If you age it then you don't need to dechlorinate. However, if something goes wrong with the municipal water and they super chlorinate it or worse add chloramine then you probably won't know it until you put it in your tanks and your fish are suffering.

I would say it depends on what you’d like to focus on in your dream store. I probably would have a mix of both depending on what I’m stocking.

Of course you can have both 🤦‍♂️ and that will give me a lot more hours of design/redesign.

    I'd go for 20 talls.

20 longs make great displays, but the 6" of space you save with a tall tank compared to a long one can allow you to have a whole extra tank at the end of the row if you have a row of 4 tanks, if that makes sense. You might be able to cram more fish into a 20 long, but I don't think you could make up for a whole extra 20 tall doing it that way.

That's my daydream dilemma, ease of netting fish and better display vs more tanks in the lineup. Also the "stack" of 20 longs would be lower. Just can't figure out if those benefits outweigh the loss of tanks per sq ft.

  5. To pass the time at work I often daydream about opening a LFS. Could never happen IRL as my town way too small and there are 3 good ones within 45 minute drive of me.

I usually go with ACO type racks but can never decide on 20 talls or 20 longs for the sales tanks.

Thought it might be fun to discuss what you would use and why.

Question for me would be what exactly is the setup.  Overflow? Water in --> Water out?

    Overflow water in/water out.

Reading the options I think I'll probably go with the filter for the following reasons.

    1. Treating a prefill tank  would require a tank  that's taking room that could be a fish tank. 🙂

    2. Dosing pump seems slightly risky as there wouldn't be a notice of failure unless I either noticed it not running or that the fish were in trouble.

    3. Since I know about how much water I would run through the system and how long the filter is rated for, I could just subtract a 10% safety factor and schedule the changes.

Not that I have ever seen but I think pymeters  are a bit less expensive but I’ve never used those.

Yes but it has only 1 probe so only works for one tank.

I use a few of these, 2 plugs and 2 probes.

  8. My advice is exactly what it looks like you planning to do. 5gal buckets with the fish using the nano air pump and actually emptying everything out of the tanks before you move them. If you feel the fish can't all go together then move and set up one tank at a time

Me, I would probably worry over the huge water change that's gonna be happening in the 55 and buy a bunch of buckets to haul 35gal of the old water. Probably not really needed and hopefully someone who has done a move like this will advise.

There is both flame and Java moss in there already but I might add more from my fry tanks. It's more beneficial for the shrimp.

I got cherries in a 20L and the floor is literally 1/2 covered with java about 2in thick. Took a while to grow it but I love they way it looks. Kinda fun to watch a "wave" slowly move across it when a mystery snail is moving under the moss causing a large bulge to move across the top of the moss.

  10. On trip with brother today to pick up a used 120gal. It had a very nice piece of driftwood in it. I was admiring it while we drained and broke down the tank when the guy  asks if I would be interested in some driftwood he has "out back." I say sure and we go look, he has a ton of it with some truly stunning pieces and I'm picking out a few and ask what he wants for them. He says he has no use for them as my brother had just bought his last two tanks so I should take them all.  Again, "Well how much we talking?" "If you haul it it's yours."

He wouldn't take anything for what has got to be at least $400 worth of wood.

So I guess the best deal I ever got was $400+ of driftwood for helping my brother out for a couple hours 😉

    Heard they like boiled veggies

Mine will eat green beans or carrots straight out of the can. Also blanched spinach or zucchini. I put it in for the snails but the shrimp get some too.

Also some crushed corral for the KH and tons of java moss. The moss not only provides a place for food to grow but they love to hide in it.

  12. Ordered 8 got nine by accident. They put a 10 gal inside a 29gal and nobody noticed. When got home and unloading I still didn't notice until I started filling all for a leaks test. Have to call tomorrow and ask if they want it back. 40minute drive so they gonna have to say they want it for me to go lol.

Also picked up a used 120 and 40gal bowfront for my brother. Been a long day draining, moving, cleaning and, setting up tanks today.
