  1. She has been a little fat for a couple of weeks hence thinking pregnant but only this big for 2 almost 3 days now. Normally I'd move her to quarantine but I just got a new fish for another tank so I'm not sure that I should do that. I've been just watching closely so far.
  2. I thought one of my platys was just pregnant but now I'm not really sure. She's chasing glass occasionally and not really swimming with the others. Other than that no odd behavior, still eating and I've seen her poop. But I'm worried it's dropsy instead. She has a white spot on her anal spot? And is very large. I'm just very worried, I can't seem to get a good pic really, and I'm not sure if she looks like a pinecone from above, I dont think so but I'm not sure what exactly that means. Tank parameters are all normal. Ammonia- 0 Nitrite - 0 Nitrate btw 5 and 10 Ph - 7.6 Gh - 10 Kh - 6 Temp - 78
  3. It is very hard to tell mine has definitely lost half of his beautiful tail but I think it has finally stopped, still not seeing regrowth though. Id just keep up what you're doing, keeping the water clean as you can. I'd say if he's eating at least that's a good sign. I'm not super experienced though.
  4. Seems to be doing alright, fairly active at least, no further loss, still haven't seen any regrowth but I'm just keeping a close eye on him and keeping the water clean. Glad yours seems to be doing alright as well
  5. My platys are the sane way. I even tried reaching in and putting bottom feeders food directly on the bottom but oop here they come. It'll be interesting to see what veggies they try and eat, I imagine it'll be all of it. They're greedy little piggies.
  6. Thank you all, I will try the complete darkness next see how the little piggies do with that. I've seen that feeding the pleco and snail veggies is good but not quite sure on the how and what's best. Just fresh slices or do you blanch them? Also is there a way that you keep them longer since veggies don't really last long? Oh and are there particular ones that are better. I have easy access to cucumbers but don't know what else is good for them.
  7. So I'm having trouble with my platys eating the bottom feeders food like bug bite crumbles and algae wafers and I don't know how to make them stop. I think it's causing some constipation/bloating issues. I've tried adding it after turning lights out and they still go after it. Water conditions are good so them eating everything is the only thing I can think of that's causing the bloating/constipation issues. I've also tried not feeding for 3 days then feeding just spirula and that seemed to get them back to well, normal poops and size but then they go right back to eating food that's not theirs and having the long stringy poop and looking bloated. I really don't know what else to do or what I can do. Any advice? Oh the other food is for the cory cats, bn pleco and mystery snail. I also worry they might not get enough fppd because of the greedy little platys. Parameters Ammonia - 0 NitrItes - 0 NitrAtes btw 10 and 20 Ph - 7.6 Gh - 10 Kh - 6 Temp 79 Stock 8 platys 5 cory cats 1 bn blue eye lemon pleco 1 mystery snail
  8. Mine has also lost half his fin, it's very disconcerting to see isnt it. I'm just feeding once a day. That seems to work for all of mine, except the gluttonous platy tank, thinking about going to every other day or something with them, lol.
  9. He's definitely feeling better, I haven't noticed new growth yet but it hasn't gotten worse either. He literally took food out of my hand the other day, scared me half to death, lol. But I think this route is a very trusted way of doing things. Many here have had luck with treating internally better than just in the water column. Sometimes pet store employees mean well but aren't always the most educated.
  10. How long should it be before his fins start looking better? It's been a crazy experiment of trying/mushing different foods that I have with the meds to get him to take it. I finally have gotten him to take a bit of Hikari spirula bribe shrimp paste but he won't eat much of it. He won't eat anything if it's bigger than a small pellet. He's always been this way even before he got sick, idk why so maybe he's not getting enough meds this way? He's much more active, still stays at the bottom some but not much, definitely not to the same level he used to be but his fins look worse not better. Should I just try and add the kanaplex to the water instead? Also I still don't know what originally caused this unless there was a random spike of ammonia ect that disappeared in a week span because that's how often I was testing. I test daily right now.
  11. I have Kanaplex on hand would that work or do I need something different? I don't have any Repashy either but have some food I think it would mix well in or if theres something better med wise I can try amd get it. Water parameters are still holding good today the ph is back to its normal 7.6, not sure why it skyrocketed to 8.2 yesterday especially with a good kh but I'll keep a close eye on it. Anything else I can do idk if the salt has done any good in not he's still mostly staying at the bottom but greeting me anytime I come near. I'm so scared of losing him. He's kinda my favorite... don't tell the others.
  12. Im.so upset with myself last Wednesday, my WC day my 6.5 betta tank heater didn't get plugged back in all the way or somehow got knocked out of the plug-in and I didn't notice until Friday because Gabriel,my betta, was lethargic. The temp got down to at least 72, idk if it was lower that's just what it was when I noticed it. He seemed to recover okay, or so I thought. He was swimming around happily, jumping a bit when greeting me at the top and eating fine. This Wednesday I noticed fraying on his fins. I tested the water immediately and everything was normal so I did a small WC to not stress him out. Tested the water again a few hours later with same parameters. Yesterday I noticed it seemed so much worse. I feel like maybe I wasn't paying close enough attention because it looks so bad. It couldn't get that bad in one day, I had to of just not noticed. I still tested and it was normal, I did see that he seemed a little bloated and was lethargic, laying on the bottom only swimming around periodically. I added aquarium salt and turned the light off. It seemed to help some, he swam around more and wasn't just staying at the bottom. I feel like today he looks even worse and is again mostly staying at the bottom. He'll come to greet me if I get near the tank and is still swimming around occasionally but I'm so worried I'm going to lose him. I'm guessing it's fin rot so should I just go ahead and medicate on top of the salt or wait and see how it does. Also does it kinda looks like his mouth is stuck open or something? I feel so awful and near tears like because of the heater being off and then I wasn't paying enough attention now he's super sick and it's all my fault. Oh and the testing today the ph and gh are high, did the salt cause that? And should I do something about it? Parameters Ammonia - 0 NitrIte - 0 NitrAte - 10 Ph 8.2 Yesterday/normal 7.6 😕 Gh - 8 Yesterday/normal 6 kh - 6 Water temp 79 i have a Indian almond leaf floating in the tank as well. I've included a picture of all the foods I have but he has refused to eat all of them except the betta pellets, this was before he became ill, I haven't fed him since Wed since he was looking a little bloated. side note there isn't stuff floating in the tank, the outside of the tank has stuff on it that won't come off.
  13. I am struggling with algae in my 55 gallon. It took me nearly 3 hours to clean it, including taking out all the decor and fake plants to clean, then doing a water change to get the gravel and cleaning tank walls. It has only been one week since I did this exact thing, only I think this time was worse somehow. I'm not sure what kind it is, should have taken pictures but forgot before I got busy cleaning it all up. It covers the gravel, in some places enough that it won't come off and I had to scoop it out. On the decorations it clings to it nice and thick - super fun to get off - and on the ship it was all stringy like hair but still thick. If I had the money and knew how I'd switch it to a planted tank, those have been significantly easier to care for which has surprised me. But anyway a couple of changes I'm already making I am taking over feeding the fish, my dad has said that he thinks he over-feeds and also a lot goes to the bottom and isn't eaten by the corys or bn pleco. Looking into a better curtain because all that is on the window is a blanket so maybe that's a huge contributer? But any advice is welcome, I don't want to have to keep taking everything out like this every week and stressing the fish out but I don't know how else to get it clean. Parameters before WC/cleaning decor today Ammonia- 0 NitrIte - 0 NitrAte - 10 Ph - 7.6 Temp 79
  14. I will give this a try and see how things go, thanks
  15. My dad feeds them. He was feeding twice a day, I told him let's try just once a day in case it was over feeding. He feeds the Tetra flakes and fluval bug bites for the Corys and pleco. He's supposed to be switching up and feeding some bloodworms for variety but hasn't been. I also have daphnia, community pellets, spirulina and freeze dried brine shrimp if any of that would be better.
  16. Fishy passed away in Monday. Still not entirely sure what happened. Not seeing anything on the other fish but am watching closely and testing daily. Hoping it's just some one off thing but I'm not sure.
  17. I don't think any of the scales are uprising at least it didn't look like it I can get a better look at him from above this afternoon after work. I feel do bad for not checking daily like I do the other tanks in my room. I just assumed my dad would say something but apparently he doesn't pay any attention. I have no idea when symptoms developed. I wanna say I would have noticed during the water change Tuesday but I did a small one and idk maybe missed it. Definitely didn't look this bad though. I'm worried about the rest of the fish
  18. Everything was going so well with my tanks, or so I thought. I admittedly have not been watching the 55 gallon as closely this last week, I usually do a daily inspection because I'm paranoid but I've been incredibly busy and have just done the cursory water change and testing which was normal. My dad feeds them because it's in his room. Well tonight I noticed one of the Serpae tetras was very sick. I asked how long it had looked like that and my dad apparently hasn't even noticed a difference. I immediately moved him to the quarantine tank and tested parameters. All are normal, will post below, and no other fish looks abnormal, at least I don't think so. My tired brain is worried I missed something. Symptoms Very pale in color, seems almost like a white film coating him maybe? Swims normally and still rather quick, took quite a bit to catch him. But not staying with the group which is abnormal, they tend to swim together. Very bloated, I didn't really see pineconing but idk. Tank parameters Ammonia - 0 NitrItes - 0 NitAte - 10 Ph 7.8 GH - 6 KH - 6 Temp - 79 Stocking 6 Serpae tetra 6 Black Skirt Tetras 4 Julii Teras 1 Blue Eye Lemon BN pleco 2 Platys (I know this is low to keep together but they were moved from another tank because they were bullies and seem to be thriving in this tank) This is the best picture I could get. I've got to try and get some rest before work but will try to get a better pic tomorrow. Other pic is same lil guy one month ago.
  19. Thank you all. The power was restored about 7 hrs after it went off, leaving enough time for me to get the how's back up and running and do a visual check on all fishies as I had to be up early for work. I checked all tanks parameters after work and everything is going well, even my qt that I've mentioned on here is doing alright with the one lone survivor. I will definitely be looking into investing in back up batteries for the tank pumps. Though really why I didn't think of it before idk, I do live in tornado alley, power outages feom storms are fairly frequent.
  20. Thank you both. Only the 29 gal is completely planted and the 5 gallon has a couple of plants. I have moved the sponges into the tanks from the hobs, also unplugged the hobs so if the power comes back when I'm not home it doesn't ruin them. There are several utilities trucks out and about so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
  21. Two are betta tanks so those should be fine I think, the 29 gallon and the 55 are moderately stocked so idk. Thankfully it has cooled down though that also means more storms tonight. It could be out all night and I unfortunately am not prepared for this, no back up batteries or money fir back up batteries. I have both hang on back with sponges filters instead of the carbon they come with and sponge filters. I suppose I'll just have to hope and pray it comes back on and they all survive.
  22. We lost power due to a storm with straight line winds and there's no telling how long it'll be before it comes back with all the downed trees and possibly power lines. Plus now more rain and wind coming through. It's around 100° outside. How long are my fish going to be ok and what do I need to do when the power comes back on if anything?
  23. This is a definite possibility, it's another reason why I'm watching it so closely. The tank itself has been up and cycled but I completely dumped it out, rinsed it and put substrate in it two weeks ago,l so I could move it out of my room with all my other tanks, the sponge filter did not get cleaned and stayed wet in old aquarium water but I have been worried I killed the cycle. I haven't seen any spikes at all with daily testing, sometimes more than once but it also has not gone beyond that 5 possibility less than 5 Nitrates either whereas all my other tanks are clearly above 5. I have ordered a couple of sponge filters from aquarium co-op so those should be in soon hopefully. The last fish is still alive seems ok for now I guess but we'll see
  24. Thank you, I'll give it a try with the one remaining molly, suppose it's worth trying at least to see if it helps.
  25. I have paraguard, kanaplex, prazipro and ich x on hand will any of those work? Also I've added crushed coral, that helps raise the hardness and ph, right?
