AtomicSunfish
The bladder snails in my tank were getting killed by my HOB. I put an Aquarium Co-op course pre-filter sponge on the intake, and that has helped. However, small ones still get through and die, leaving their shells stuck in the basket. Would switching to a fine mesh sponge solve the problem by blocking them all? Or would it just get clogged? Edited June 5 by AtomicSunfish
Lennie
I personally think fine sponge are much better. As long as you are okay with doing maintenance more often ( and it is just basically washing the sponge so that's like 2 mins a week) fine sponge is better. I have coarsed sponge in one of my tanks too and I also have issues with it. I dont like it Edited June 5 by Lennie
AllFishNoBrakes
All depends on the amount of work and how often. When I first got my canister filter I bought some smaller pre filter sponges on Amazon. I was having to clean and rinse them out every 3 days, which was way to often for me. Switched to a Coop size that fits and now I have to do it like once per month. Much better for me personally.
