Here is a photo I took earlier this week of the gudgeons 😄

JayO
Brandon, I hope you don't mind me asking this question here but... Do you think it would be alright if I bought 6 Peacock gudgeons and one Pearl gourami to put in my 30 gal tank that has been going for 6 months. The thing is, I have a lot of Cherry shrimp and I don't want as many anymore. (I overfed them when I first started out...I'm still learning) I have given away hundreds of them but there are still a lot. I know these two types of fish will eat baby shrimp but is it bad for them if they eat too many? The other fish in my tank are, 1 Hillstream loach, 1 Clown pleco, one Zebra otocinclus, 2 Amano shrimp and 6 Black Bar Endler's. Thank you, Jay

Thank you, Jay Hey again Jay, Both species would decimate a neo. shrimp tank in my opinion. Depending on the tank decor, planting amounts, etc. I think they would destroy most (if not all) the cherry shrimp you have longterm- adults and shrimplets alike. You may want to start by adding one or two of either species and seeing what amount they clear out before adding multiple individuals all at once. It would be a lot easier to add more predators as needed vs remove them and get the population growing again. Also, peacock gudgeons can be a little territorial, so I personally would do a pair of those and be weary of adding another territorial fish like a gourami or more gudgeons in a 30 gallon tank. I tend to be more conservative though, so just my opinion after working with both species 😄 Hope that helps as always!
JayO
Brandon, Thank you for your careful consideration of my thoughts. I want to be conservative also, so I think I will purchase a pair of peacock gudgeons and see how that goes. I want to go without the cherry shrimp so if the gudgeons eventually get them all that will be okay. I'm just going to go with amano shrimp because they won't reproduce. Maybe the gudgeons will eat the amano shrimp too? I just won't know how to feed the gudgeons if they are also eating shrimp. Will I get a male and a female for the pair? Or get 2 males or 2 females? I don't care about breeding. Either that, or I will get one Pearl gourami. I will be coming on Wednesday. Thank you very much, Jay

Thank you very much, Jay Hi again Jay, If your amano shrimp are larger they should be OK with the gudgeons. I would recommend getting a M/F pair of the gudgeons too, and we can do our best to sex them for you when you come in but they can be tricky. We'll see you on Wednesday!
