  1. Hello Everyone:

    ammonia : 0

    nitrites : 0

    nitrates: 5ppm

So recently I posted about discus tank having excessive slime coat / dark, 5 out of the 7 made it and are doing well with the exception of one 5” blue diamond, from all apparent looks there is nothing wrong, no white poop, no external injuries etc.. she twitch’s her fins occasionally and kind of hangs out alone, not hiding or in the corner and also not eating much. Treated the tank with Prazi for gill flukes, thought maybe mating , all others are acting great, this one is puzzling, want to get her back eating and thriving again.

    thanks

  2. Thanks for all the help, I have the 2 of them in a QT 20 gallon now, I put 1/4 teaspoon of Oxytetracycline in last night? Do you know what the recommended dosing is? I have heard so many different things, I have Heard do it daily, and every 3 days etc..

So I posted on here before and was advised to used Kanaplex for the discus that had excessive slime coat/ fin rot. 2 of them went from black looked like death to perfect color so 5 of 7  are good , I have done 2 rounds of Kanaplex and there are still 2 that aren’t doing so well. Should I quarantine, these 2 and medicate with something different like API fin and body? I am worried about continuing to treat the whole tank and killing all my hood bacteria. Should I do this or just keep on with salt and hope the get better?  They both were eating and now are not.

so I had to add these discus straight in the main tank after1 week of QT, due to another Ram I had to put in the qt, they have all contracted this thin white slime and they are still eating for the most part, but always bundled together, they obviously look bad, talked to Wattleys , said 3 days of Paragaurd then 30% water change then salt for a week. I’m about to add the salt, just wondering if that’s really what they need or some Oxytetracycline , it doesn’t appear to be internal, but just don’t want to Lose all 7 discus. 75 gallon tank.

  5. Thanks Ken, yeah that’s basically the options, I’m going to assess in the morning, ( I just noticed this afternoon) if the Ram is still acting off and not eating then I will make a decision, if he is eating then I can give the metronidazole and antibiotic in the food , seems to always work better 🤞

  6. Soooo . I just got 2 new large discus , they have been in quarantine for 6 days ( just for observation ) and are swimming and eating well with great color. I obviously want to keep them in there for another week or so before putting in my main tank with the others…My issue is that I think I have a sick Ram(not interested in food) in the main tank now, all the other Discus in there are fine, so I am debating on do I go ahead and put the new discus in the main tank and take out the Ram and medicate him, or just watch him and leave the discus in QT. Don’t really want to medicate the whole tank if it’s not needed. 🤷‍♂️ Don’t know the right decision, any suggestions? Thanks

  7. So I have some Discus that turned darker and one had very long stringy poop, so I am medicating them in a Hospital tank with metronidazole, it seems like they are great some days then they are not 🤷‍♂️They are in a 20 gallon, I went ahead and started treatment on the 75 gallon they came from, So my question is when do I know it’s time to put them back in the tank? When they start eating? It’s odd so sometimes the fish is dark then last night he was vibrant then this morning he is back darker again?? The first pic is from last night the next is from this morning 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

  8. Hello everyone thanks for any help. So my tank 75 Gallon tank has been cycled for about 8 weeks, I added fish about 2 weeks ago everything has been great, am expecting a shipment of discus today so I did a 60 ish % water change and when I did the water change, I had about 40ppm of NitrAte after the water change I had about 5ppm, fed the fish yesterday after water change , and yesterday morning, tested the water last night, and the nitrates were gone, readings were 0,0,0. Thought maybe hey it’s just clean, there only about 10 small fish in there, tested this morning and the was about 2ppm ammonia 0 nitrite , 0 nitrate?? I guess I removed all the beneficial bacteria when vacuuming the substrate… added prime and stability, but my discus will be here today and I have to put them in the tank. Any suggestions to keep them alive till I get more Bacteria??

    thanks everyone
