Thanks, @Helan.  Very good to know.  Still keeping an eye on my one male Amano and counting my smaller fish.  I haven't seen him chasing the rasboras lately, but he seemed pretty eager before.

My shrimps were like that too up until like 2 weeks of being in the tank, then they were much more well behaved

Hi @Helan.  Just wondering if you had any update on how your amano/cory interaction is going?  I recently had to separate a 2" amano female from a school of 1/2" kubotai rasboras because she was hunting and eating them.  Our other amano, a 1" male, seems to have taken up the chase, but he hasn't caught one yet.  Hoping to catch him before he does.  All this time I was worried about finding tank mates who wouldn't bother the shrimp.

Thanks for asking, things are much better now just a bit of food competition,I suspect it was just curiosity

Wow that is mega pricey. I’m certainly not a fish food expert. Many on here have gone down the research rabbit hole on foods I have not but if it was not cost prohibitive I would definitely give it a go. I would ask how old it is.

My exact reaction to the price 🤣,the expiration tag says next year so I think it should be good

  4. I read mixed things about feeding shrimp,so say you absolutely need to while others say you don’t they can live off algae and biofilm,

My two amanos  are in my ten gallon with a snail and I add Indian almond leaves regularly so do I need to feed my shrimp and if so what should I feed?

So until this last week I'd never experienced Popeye in any form. Sadly one of my Tiger Otos appears to have gotten a unilateral (1 eye) case of Popeye which per many people and the internet is more likely caused by an injury. So he's in solitary being dosed with Maracyn and Aquarium Salt (IME salt has never negatively affected my Otos). I feel so bad for the poor thing but hopefully I'll get them on the mend.

The internet doesn't really talk about how long to treat (as healing can take weeks or months) or what you can expect as you treat a fish so I was wondering. Who here has experience with treating Popeye (unilateral or bilateral), what did you do, how did you treat it, how long did you treat it, did you keep the fish isolated the whole time, when did you release it, did it recover, how long did it take? Any input would be great- as there has not been a lot of general discussion about the disease just for specific intances. I think sharing our experiences on a general thread about it could help others who come here in a panic about it.

Don’t know if it works but I saw a case of popeye at my local fish farm and they were treating with malachite green but it was a cichlid so I don’t know

I’ve tried that, water change in a storm, repashy… I wonder if I somehow ended up with only males lol

Could you send photos?, males are skinnier and longer, females often have fat belly’s and are shorter

I know it’s a Little hard to see but ,the first pic is my male the second is my female( see the fat belly?)

Oooh I didn’t know they had that much personality! I do like to run my tank a little cool. That’s a great idea.

I have some panda corys, but I have no idea if they’ve ever bred. I have a friend who just randomly finds baby panda corys in her tank and I’m jealous 😆

I heard colder water can trigger corys to breed but I never tried it myself

you have tigers! pics plz!! do you peel the grapes 1st?

I will get some pics later, I cut off all the skin and cube the grape, 1 is usually enough for my 11 tiger barbs, I use green grapes because they seem to prefer it but you can try any colour yours may have different taste

I put mine in pots because they are in the tank with my Jack Dempseys who are HARD on plants.  This was the only way I’ve been successful at getting them to not destroy all the plants in their tank.  They still manage to do some damage intermittently and they’re super hard on the Jungle Val that’s in the tank with them.  The Val leaves are a bit too soft and get torn up even though the bases of the plants are protected by layers of pebbles.

In a normal tank without plant abusers, they could go into the substrate with about 1/4 to 1/3 of the base of the bulb planted.  These only have this much bulb exposed because the Jacks partially dislodged them.  Otherwise they have stood up well to the Jacks (much better than the Jungle Vals have fared.

I’ll probably be moving whatever Jungle Vals are left and planting more Crinums in the near future.  I wanted those big, tall, straight leaves to echo the tall straight lucky bamboo, but I don’t think they’re going to get there with Jacks beating up on them.

And yes, easy to care for.  I have them planted in dirt sprinkled with a few Osmocote granules, then capped with sand, then I placed pebbles only because of the Jacks.  I do also use some Easy Green sometimes, but probably don’t need to since there’s no water column feeders in the tank.  I am due to start adding root tabs any time now, though.

Cool, I think I would try those thanks
