[Fish ID Help]

Hey guys. My friend took these fish in from a random source and doesn’t know what they are. Pretty sure S. American cichlids, and it’s a M/F pair. They definitely look familiar to me, I’ve just not had experience with them. Thoughts?

Could you help identify my friends fish? I think it may be some type of badis or maybe an apistogramma of some sort? I really have no idea. We don't even know if its a juvenile, female.... 🤷‍♂️
