  1. I had a couple small tanks at various stages of my childhood with goldfish. Knowing what I know now makes me wonder how I kept them alive. I remember, as a child, my Dr. Office having a beautiful aquarium and was always fascinated by it. January, this year I dove in with a 45gallon high. A lot of research and youtube has filled me with more knowledge this time. I now have 5 tanks, 75g, 45g, 30g, 20g, 10g. I truly enjoy creating these amazing ecosystems in glass boxes to learn from, but also to sit back, lost in the Tranquillity of them. I love my hobby!

Just to chime in without a lot of wisdom, I personally went with black diamond blasting sand.  More coarse than sand, yet still a pretty fine substrate. I love the look, my plants are doing great, and I got a 50 lb bag for under $10.  It's black coal slag.  After rinsing, I had no clarity issues or anything, and my cories seem to love it.

Glad to hear this, I just put blasting sand in my 75 and a lot of plants, eventually my cories as well.   Took me a bit to rinse it well, but so worth it.

Can I just say, I feel like the plan with these care packages is working as far as I'm concerned.  I'm pretty new to the site, and to the hobby, so I try not to say much and give bad advice or open myself and prove myself a fool, but I have begun responding much more in this forum than in others, in hope that someday I will be in the elite.  Plus, I've discovered that way I get more notifications and more reminders to return!

I feel exactly the same... I cannot even begin to count the hours I've spent watching Cory on YouTube learning. I love having that and this forum to grow and expand my knowledge. I've helped a few friends at work with that knowledge and it feels great.
