  1. Hi all, and happy holidays.

I've scoured the Google to no avail looking for what the bugs might be. They appeared and proliferated very quickly and are eating the dwarf grass and algae in my tank. My black racer snail is hiding, terrified.

The bugs appear as little almost 1/2 inch mossy sticks, that are actually tubes that they live in. They walk around easily in the tank and are voracious..

Twice a day I'm cleaning the floating grass from the top of the tank as they clip the stalks near the root. I'm thinking this is drastic.

    Anybody?

  2. Ha. I didn't finish that last post.

    Thanks for the tank compliments!

My goal was to try to have a very low maintenance tank. With the extra feeding and waste, do y'all think that a small catfish might be good.

The racer snail seems to like brine shrimp that fall to the bottom...

And, the male is being pretty aggressive towards the female in certain areas of the tank.

  3. New to the hobby! I just added a pair of mountain minnows two weeks ago.

I am lucky enough to be local to aquarium co-op... Brought them home and could easily see that the female had a very full belly, but thought nothing of it.

Well, I got lil ones all over. About 15!

That's all good but I think maybe I ought to get the breeding pair separated.

Thoughts from the community on this?

Rehoming one or the other etc.

  4. IMG_20210215_142732644.jpg.91b967333e8c606f794aac67f3566763.jpgHi all,

I recently added my first fish to my newly cycled tank and noticed that one of the pair of beautiful mountain minnows had a big bulging belly, while the other is skinny.

So, far forward a couple weeks and now I have what I thought were bugs cruising around under the surface.

Now, I believe they are fry. There are approx 8 or 9 that I can see..

I am currently feeding them Xtreme Krill flakes. Crushed really well..

After I saw the lil guys, I turned the flow down on my filter.

I guess what I'm hoping it's for some advice about what to expect and what to do to keep them alive as I didn't expect to be breeding haha.

My tank is shy of 10 gal and planted with Java fern, annubias, peace lily, Marimo, dwarf grass and repens.

I'm not quite sure how to get an image uploaded. Perhaps this link works?

    Thanks so much!
