  1. I think I'm going to give the danios and hitchhiker the med trio tonight and then put them in the display tanks on Friday; and then put the barbs in the quarantine tank on Friday after I change the water in that tank and give the barbs the med trio as well. Do you think there is any problem with giving the danios the med trio 2x's over six weeks? I know a lot of people are against using meds when quarantining fish, but Irene and Cory believe that the me trio is important to do when quarantining fish.

  2. I like your idea of throwing them all together. It's simple and easy and I think it will work. But, after watching the video you sent me, I realized that I have a ten-gallon tank with guppies in it, that I can remove and put into a larger guppy tank that I have, and then turn that 10-gallon tank into a second quarantine tank for the danios and hitchhiker. It's a lot more work, so I'll think about it for a couple of hours and then make my decision. It might be harder, but it might be more fun as well.

  3. Thank you so much for your intelligent reply. My problem with doing what you said is that I have 6 Odessa Barbs that I previously ordered from Greg Sage coming to me on Friday and I need the quarantine tank empty for the barbs by Friday.

  4. Love this forum. You are all great! I really enjoy this forum. It is fun, entertaining, and informative. I got my first aquarium 3 years ago and have been using Aquarium Coop from day one. I would never have enjoyed being in the hobby as much as I have if it weren't for Cory and the gang. I met Cory 2 years ago at an aquarium show in NJ and he is an even nicer guy in person than he is on his shows.

Thank you Cory and everyone at Aquarium Coop. You guys are great!

    Love,

    Tony

  5. I have 6 danios that have been in my quarantine tank for about a month and have received the med trio. Two days ago, I bought a water sprite from my LFS and put it in the tank and got a hitchhiker. It's a fry that my LFS thinks is a guppy or some live bearer. The fry has been in the quarantine tank with the danios for 2 days. What do you think I should do to avoid the chance of spreading a disease to my danios?

    1) treat danios (after they have already been treated one time) and fry together with med trio in the quarantine tank.

    2) put the danios in the danio tank without treating (they have already been treated one time before the fry came into the quarantine tank) and treat the fry by itself with the med trio in the quarantine tank.

    3) put my danios in my danio display tank and put the fry in my guppy display tank without treating with med trio

    4) any other idea that you might have

Also, if you can identify what type of fry this is, please let me know.

    Thanks,

    Tony

  6. Has anyone ever seen anything like this? If you look at the pictures that are attached, you will see that there is a dark reddish sticky substance on the top and side of my easy fry bottle. It's also on my floor. At first, it looked to me that root beer, or something like that spilled onto the top of the bottle, but we ruled that out. My wife came up with the idea that the heat from my radiator, heated up the Easy Fry food and it shot out of the top like a volcano, but I find this hard to believe as well, because my radiator doesn't get that hot and the Easy Fry food wasn't all that close to it. I may have placed the bottle on top of the radiator at some point, but the radiator is in a box that covers it, so the food would still have been a couple of feet from the radiator itself. Do you know if this will happen to Easy Fry food if it does get heated up? I stopped feeding my fish this food as soon as I saw this on my bottle, but I lost 20 guppies over the next few days in an otherwise healthy tank. Do you have any ideas as to what possibly could have happened?

I  have a 4 inch red tail black shark. they have the same behavioral as your rainbow shark.

i did lots of research on tank mates for these types of fish. the advice that this forum has given you is spot on!

i have barbs tiger barbs green tiger barbs and cherry barbs, rummy noses loaches, a large pleco. With no issues.

the trick is you need fast swimming fish who can with stand your sharks attacks not that the sharks bite them but chase them relentlessly causing stress and adventually death. and fish with similar body shape will be a high target. my shark never chases my rummy noses or my cherry barbs but at feeding time he gets very aggressive and chases the tiger barbs. the tiger barbs are not bothered by this they can swill very fast much longer then the shark. hope this helps.

Thank you so much. This forum is awesome. This is the first time I used it and within 24 hours I got so many great suggestions and ideas.

I think I'm going to put the rainbow shark in my 55 gallon with 12 tiger barbs and 6 danios.
