[MBU Puffer quarantine]

Hi Everyone I do not post often, more of just a lurker, but I can use some help. 
 

Recently I rescued a MBU puffer(Jack).  He is about 18 inches long. My kids have already fallen in love with him, as have I.

 

He seems to be pretty healthy, but I want to quarantine prior to moving him into my 330 gallon tank.
 

I was thinking of the Med trio, but have read puffers are sensitive to medication. Would any of the med trio be harmful to the puffer?

Hi everyone I have been trying to identify what is wrong with my big male red head geophagus.  Noticed  it developed a couple what looked sores with white inside of them.  Removed him from tank and places him in hospital tank for about 2 weeks now.  The tank currently has one tbsp of salt per gallon and I Have done one full treatment of para cleanse but did not solve problem.

Currently the tank has the following water parameters.

nitrite 0

nitrate 10

hardness close to 300

buffer is between 40 and 80

ph 7.4

chlorine 0

 

If anyone has any ideas they would be greatly appreciated.

 

 

[Flowerhorn question]

Hi everyone. First post here. I have a flower horn and recently noticed what looks like a gash or cut on one of his gills. I have attached the best photos I could get. Is this something I should worry about and what treatment should I use? First thought was salt.
