Does it seem to be detrimental to the fish at all?

Nothing yet. Little bit of tannins. They seem to like it.

They all appear well-seasoned. Softwood will break down faster in a tank than hardwood. Were you able to break off any wood when it was dry? If so, it's likely a softwood. If you found it in a location where there was leaf litter it would be easier to identify by the leaves. The middle and bottom wood looks like it was infested with bugs, likely a beetle of some type.

Okay thanks. Is there anything to look out for to make sure that the wood isn’t breaking down too fast? Also boiling will rid of all bugs and bacteria correct? I boiled all of these for hours, changing water every 20 minutes.

Welcome! How long was it before you got your second tank?

I’ve had it running for a couple of weeks. Just put the betta and snails in a few days ago. No issues yet minus a little excess ammonia.

Any idea what tree it came from?
Sticks all tend to look alike unless you’re at the receiving end of my Grandmother’s!😳

Not too sure. None of the trees around had pines or leaves on them still so I figured they would be alright.

  4. I’m about 6 months into the hobby and I feel like I’m getting a good grasp on things. The Aquarium Co-op team’s knowledge really got me past that beginner burnout. Saved my fish multiple times. I have a 10g with a Gourami and clown pleco, and an 8g with a Double Tail and 2 snails.88CA72B2-F86E-4620-99B2-58CA70ED2A11.jpeg.ce374089ba28e1a11350d42bd17d7dd4.jpegCF0ECAEF-58E5-466C-9D8D-045D005094A2.jpeg.5654589a0d46fe25823b46aaecec303d.jpeg
