  1. I tested my water the other day and i had 1ppm nitrite 0 ammonia and some nitrate my aquarium has been running almost 1 year with no problem. So i used two different api test kits to test tank water and both said 1ppm nitrite. I tested my tap water and both kits said 0ppm nitrite so i do %50 water change then tested aquarium water and it still says 1ppm nitrite. The only thing I've chanhged recently is i added aquarium co op root tabs but i don't believe that would cause this to happen. Any ideas?

Fish are eating and acting fine. No darting or gasping at the surface. Its strange that my test kits say 0 nitrite in my tap water but says 1ppm nitrite in my tank even after changing %50 of the water which seems impossible to me. Not sure what to do. I use equilibrium to boost my gh but I'm low and had to order more as i have no fish stores that sell it near me so can't be doing water changes everyday.

  2. It's okay. I'm only interested in fish that are 3 inches or smaller. I also have gravel so reluctant to get some corydoras. I'm really just looking for something that stays small, is peaceful, and will help keep the white population from going crazy. I don't mind if the white clouds breed some but i don't need hundreds lol

  3. I got a 55 gallon moderately planted tank with snails that I've had running for a little over 2 months. I'm getting to the point where i wanna get some fish and i know i wanna start with a small group of longfin white clouds. The temp of the tank is 74°F. I don't mind if they breed some but i wanna try not to be overrun as i don't have any local fish stores to take them to. Whats some other fish that will get along with white clouds and like the same parameters that will help control the population some? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

  4. I'm setting up a 40 breeder with some congo tetras and  plants like anubias and java fern. I have to buffer my gh up cause its 1 degree on test kits. My ph is 8.2 and kh is 9 degrees on test kit. I don't know why my gh is so low. I have seachem cichlid lake salt could i use that with these particular plants or do i have to use something like seachem equilibrium? I know the lake salt has more sodium in it but i'd rather use that if i can cause the equilibrium is kind of a pain to get it to mix in the water. thanks for any help

  5. ok so i have kept fish for years mostly african cichlids with big tank and canister filters and all that. i had to use cichlid salt to buffer my gh up to keep african cichlids and i got burnt out and took a break but i dont want to quit completely. so i just wanted to set up my 40 breeder as a planted tank and just have a betta fish. something that is really low maintenance. I know how to grow plants and cycle a tank and all that. I'm looking for which fish and plants would fit my tap water parameters cause i dont want to do all that extra stuff. if i have to use all those additives then i'd rather just not have an aquarium at all.

  6. I am thinking about setting up a 40 breeder planted tank. My water parameters are ph 8.2 gh 1° kh 9°. I want a low maintenance planted tank and don't want to have to add additivea to my tap water. I want this tank so be as simple as possible. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
