The Neodymium Bar Magnets with Epoxy Coating hold but they have very little grip.  Even adding an additional magnet (4 total) it wouldn't be able to support much weight.  I have extra magnets so I will give it one more try.IMG_20210409_144218.jpg.e2dc2a177c04b488ac8cffbfffbc8b70.jpg

Me too!

I loved watching the evolution of this product in just 24 hours. 

And people should be talking more about that fluval 3.0 extender!!! Fluval 3.0s really perform best at a slight elevation because of their light spread, and the elevated mounting options designed for it are practically nonexistent.

I'm glad you are enjoying this... so am I.  

I will be adding the Fluvial stand to the site soon.  I want to make it stable before it's released.

PLA is safe, especially food safe PLA, but also biodegradable. It will break down in water if it's not sealed. As always caveats apply flex and glow and "wood" PLA are not safe. Natural white ABS may also be aquarium safe. Research anything before putting it in the aquarium.

The magnets will work better when paired with a bit of rubber or even "post-it" adhesive. The glass is too smooth to have the natural friction with PLA needed to have good holding capacity.

That's pretty cool. You knew that without experimenting. I was thinking the same thing AFTER testing. Despite decent attraction (4 magnets), the basket would slide easily because of the lack of friction. It was like an elephant on a greased hill. I was considering putting on a couple of coats of platidip or glue on strips from a balloon. I was aiming for thin to keep the magnets as close to one another as possible. My concern is its longevity. Considering countersinking some of the tiny rubber stops, you stick on your drawers and cabinets as another method.

Not without testing. At work we have magnets that hold file holders to the side of the metal desk. The smooth metal lets the file holder slide easily if the magnet slips a little. But a little rubber or a drop of elmers glue even will provide enough friction to stop the holder from slipping.

A little rubber bumper on the bottom edge, would create a high friction pivot point that would maximize the holding power of the magnet at the top edge. Shifting the hold points for the metal tools to the sides to keep them close to the pivot would also help reduce the leverage that those tools have on the magnets.

There has been no progress on the magnetic base. I used six magnets (3 on base and three on the mount. It had a better grip; however, the ends of the bars started to mess with each other. The base in the tank didn't want to center on the three magnets on the mount.  

This is the workshop and my son's game room. His computer and desk are behind the photo. You don't need a tank heater when you have Two CPUs and three printers running simultaneously. It gets uncomfortably hot.

I printed a few of the Stilettos at varying heights. While there are a few solutions to lift the Fluval 3.0, they all seem bulky and less refined.  A system to hold/hide the power cord will be added for a cleaner look.   It looks great in black.

 

Be honest, is the name lame (Stiletto)? 😁

Today's update:

I added clips to the Stilettos for cord management and updated the test tube holder. When testing ammonia and Nitrites, you are required to set the cap down between solutions. I didn't particularly appreciate placing the cap back on the dryer. It would leave a residue that could cross-contaminate. Now you can flip the cap upside down and place it in the holder until you put it back on the test tube.

I found some time to work on the HiTauing stilettos. These look pretty snazzy, If I say so myself. I like the light quality of this brand. It's not as good as the Fluval 3.0, but it looks miles better than the Finnex IMHO.  Hopefully, the Finnex stiletto design will be completed this week.  Cheers

The stand for the Finnex ALC led is complete.  I love how it came out.  It appears it will fit the HLC as well. I'm not sure about the CRV, SE, SC, Stingray 2, or HLC. It would be great if it would work with those lights too. Either I buy all of the lights or send out a stand to someone who has a few of these lights to trial fit then.
