Clovis
I setup a a new 15 flex that is heavily planted. Moved most of the plants and rocks, wood from an old mature balanced tank. Moved the sponges and ceramic media from same tank. Only new thing in tank is substrate. This tank should be essentially cycled right away correct? I can add lifestock? OceanTruth
I, myself, wouldn’t hesitate putting new fish in the tank in that situation. I would even go so far as to add some of the old water as well.
Eric R
Should be, as long as there has recently been a similar bioload in your old tank as to the bioload in your new tank.
Frank
If you don't add livestock, you'll have to feed all of that bacteria, that you imported, some other way. If you're planning on adding shrimp, or otocinclus, plan on giving them supplemental foods. Edited March 14, 2021 by Frank
Kirsten
Pretty much! I would add 4-8 gallons of water from the old tank too, just for kicks, but that's basically all you need for a cycled tank.
Chiclid addict
When I set up a new tank I use water form another tank as well as the filter media form said tan depending on the size a tank like a 40 or bigger I’ll probably do a 50% new to old so it’s like a 50% water change but with smaller tanks like a 30 gallon and below I do 75-100% used tank water I can usually just put fish straight in or maybe wait a couple days if it’s brand new Substrate
Brian
Add fish. If any hesitation, feed lightly the first couple days. But you should be good. wait, water was dechlorinated? Right? Before you added everything?
HenryC
You should be absolutely fine. I've moved (multiple times) just a mature sponge filter to a new tank with brand new ceramic media in the main filter and never had problems.
