Dear Cory,

Thank you for showing videos. I saw your video you posted regarding sponge filters, and a tour of your tanks in the store. You mentioned in the video that you had 2 sponge filters in a 125 gallon, with a lot of fish in it. I used to be so afraid of sponge filters thinking that I would end up with ammonia because I didn't believe the surface area was enough to handle the ammonia. I saw your 20 gallon tanks with one sponge filter housing more fish then i do in my 15 gallon. I only have 12. I'm no longer afraid of them, and am confident that it will be more then enough biological filtration for my 12 fish in my 15 gallon.

You also have to remember bacteria doesn't just live in your filter, but all through your tank. If you have rocks, driftwood, plants, ornaments, etc. in your tank there's beneficial bacteria living in and on them. Beneficial bacteria will colonize any surface they can find in the tank, not just the filter. They're here, they're there, they're everywhere.
