Chloe and Delta Posted February 21, 2021 Posted February 21, 2021 Hey all, I was wondering if there was such a thing as a completely silent filter for nano tanks? As in, no bubbles, no waterfall sound, no sound from the filter itself, nothing. I have heard that for large tanks, canister filters are silent. I don't know of anything for tanks below say, 7.5 gallons though.
CT_ Posted February 21, 2021 Posted February 21, 2021 May be a hot take but you could go plants and no filter. Both my HOB filters are nearly silent and if you fill the water high enough they don't make the splashing sounds. Never tried it but I hear the internal filters are also very quiet. 1
Streetwise Posted February 21, 2021 Posted February 21, 2021 We discus some internal filters in this thread. The MF10 is pretty quiet. I'm only using sponge filters now though. 1

Yeah going back and forth on filter/no filter. Was just watching the videos where Cory explains you need flow in the absence of a filter to prevent stratification, dead spots.
Streetwise Posted February 22, 2021 Posted February 22, 2021 I have a Nano sponge filter on my 7.5, but I could definitely get away with no filter because I have enough plants. Cory's flow advice becomes more important with the size of the tank, especially above 20 gallons. In outdoor tubs, sometimes wind can be enough to move water. 2
