FishyMike
I just changed substrate from gravel to caribsea instant sand and now my tank is cloudy after filling it up!!! Is it okay to add fish back or should I wait abit longer right now they are in a 3 gallon buck with my spong filters.
MJV Aquatics
Did you rinse the sand well? Perhaps give it an hour or two to settle out before adding the fish back in unless they are stressing. We tend to 'worry' about cloudy water, but I've seen footage of the amazon river and at times a critter wouldn't be able to see 6" in front!!! FishyMike
Yes the sand was pre rinsed! Ah yes you are probably right! I think I will wait a-bit longer then put them back in there.
Joshua Harding
This could be because all the beneficial bacteria that lived in the gravel was removed. It’ll clear up if it hasn’t already if that’s the case. I’ve heard this called bacteria bloom. Normally happens any time there is a major change to the tank like a huge water change or switching substrate.
FishyMike
Thank you for the response Joshua! I’m not sure if that’s the case! It looks 100 times better today! I had 2 sponge filters and the hang on the back filter I’m hoping that’s enough bacteria to manage the substrate conversion
