mvh pets
hi! i am setting up my 240 gallon planted aquarium and i decided to temporarily fill the water with only my sand. the thing is i used a very dirty sand (around 10 times as dirty as pool filter sand) .the sand made the water cloudy even after washing. any idea how long it will take to clear and what can i do to make that faster. btw the tank only has a 1-2 inch sand bed even though it looks like i have a foot long sand bed. Colu
It might take a week to fully clear up
JettsPapa
You could do a water change to speed up the process, sucking up as much of the cloudiness as you can and making sure not to disturb the substrate when you refill the tank.

I would also rinse out the tank as best as you can. The dust cloud you are seeing will settle eventually, but I've also noticed that it may stick to the sides of the tank and cause other clarity issues later, depending on your filtration water movement etc.
Jmcloonan
What about turning off your filter for a while then siphoning the top layer of the sand (assuming that cloudiness will settle with time)?
