Do the USB Nano air pumps need a check valve?

I purchased 7 or 8 nano USB air pumps and they arrived today but was wondering if I need a check valve. They are hanging on the petco aqueon tanks.

If they are going to be hanging below the water level of the tank, then yes you want a check valve.

Kevinpleong - I’d add a check valve regardless of pump placement.  If the airline should get pulled off of the pump the valve will prevent possible siphoning out of the tank and all over your floor.

i didn't think about that event.  i guess that means its better to put the check valve closer to the airstone then the pump so it doesn't get pulled off after the check valve.

For a couple of bucks, they're worth it, IMHO. Even if you keep the air pump up high now, its one extra safety measure to avoid a possible catastrophe.

 I have check valves on all my pumps just in case it better to be safe than sorry
