MEDS TRIO BEING USED PREVENTATIVELY CAUSED WATER CLOUDINESS

Hi everyone,

Yesterday i added the trio of meds (ich-x, Maracyn, and paracleanse) to my 55. i dosed the amounts recommended by CORY HIMSELF IN THE VIDEO ON THE SITE. my tank has been established for almost a year now but because i added all new fish to the tank, i decided to treat them preventively to stop any diseases from lingering in them. Everything was fine last night when i went to sleep but this mooring i awoke to see my tank water all cloudy. i pride myself on having crystal clear water so i am rather upset that this happened. I used the exact amount of the medication recommended by Cory -no more, no less. Please help anyone. I am at a loss for words. Really worried that my parameters might be off without my realizing. I have 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite and very low nitrate when i test. I also am hesitant to do a water change because Cory recommends keeping the meds in the water without changing the water for 7 days. I do not want to lose my $ on the meds i just bought. I also ordered a second round because he mentioned in the video to treat preventively twice. Please help.

Agree with @Squeegee79. I think this is fairly common.  Anytime you are using antibiotics, you run the risk of upsetting the balance of your beneficial bacteria.  This cloudy water is likely just a small bacterial bloom and should clear up in a few days.

I recently had the same exact thing happen. Waited it out and cleared up wonderfully after the water change at the end of the cycle. (I would definitely not water change before the maracyn cycle timeframe is up though.)

Yup, that's normal, especially for Maracyn. I believe it even warns about it on the box. It's one of the many reasons that everyone, Cory included, recommend using the trio, or dosing any medications, in a quarantine tank instead of your main tank. If you've got an endemic problem with several fish and/or don't have a quarantine tank available, you can take your chances with dosing your whole tank. Better to have slightly cloudy water for a couple days than deadly illness.

I'd personally be more afraid of Ich-X staining your stuff than the temporary cloudiness.

As stated by others it's probably a bacterial bloom. Either due to the antibacterial killing off your BB or the added bioload from new fish triggering one, or a combination of the two.

It'll probably clear up before the week is up, but if not do large water changes a few days in a row to remove the meds and the cloudiness should go with it.
