PatO
Hi All, I am new to plants but I have been keeping fish for years. I have a 20 long tank I am going to plant for my very first panted tank. I am going to buy one of the Coop's sponge filters, and a 24" Phoenix light. I already have ActivFlora substrate so I doubt I will need root tabs. If you had this tank and no plant budget what would you get from the current inventory to fill the tank. I was going to buy 2 of the Easy Planters to try out. With the new substrate, is Easy Green really needed at this point? Thank you for the suggestions Go nuts folks... Thanks
Struggle
My favorite 10/20/40G tanks are the ones that are planted with mostly crypts, a Red Dwarf Aquarium Lily Bulb or maybe a banana plant. Scratch the banana plant, I prefer the lily. I’ve never used the substrate mentioned so take this with a grain of salt. I’d go ahead and us root tabs and probably easy green. I didn’t see a breakdown of what is in the substrate, just a mention of iron. The root tabs and easy green may have something that is not in the substrate or lacks sufficient quantities. On a side note, I use easy iron to grow hair algae for my scuds in a few tanks. I’m not sure if the substrate will leach enough iron into the water column to cause a algae issue but if you run into that issue you may want to keep this in mind.
