Martin
Thank you guys so much for the help and advice! My first tank is up and running! Fingers crossed! If things go well, I'll have some shrimp, a couple of nerites, and a small school of tetras in a couple weeks. HardeepTheLondoner
That’s looking good! It definitely looks better than my first tank😉 Have you considered adding a background? It really brings out the plants/fish! I hope your tank matures quickly for those Shrimp & Nerites! I like your progress!
Martin
Thank you! I had briefly considered a background, but then just never went back to it. I'll probably be adding one at some point in the future... not sure what kind, possibly all black. Very exciting!

Betsy
I don't know if you've done this already...but the Static Cling Total Blackout Window Film is SO legit for a black background. You just cut to size, spray the back of your tank with water and squeegee it on! I love your Windelov java fern (I'm obsessed with the stuff!)! 1
Streetwise
@Betsy, that sounds like a smooth solution.

Nice thing is if you ever change your mind you just pull it off plus no harsh paint smells.

I definitely picked that trick up from a Simply Betta video on the YouTubes! (I think she picked up the tip from Jadren Aquatics.) That's the black background I used on my tank - it was really easy to install!
Martin
Thank you @Betsy! I've been looking high and low for a solid black background and haven't found a suitable one yet. I just bought some of the static cling off Amazon. Thanks so much for the recommendation!
Betsy
@Martin - I'm so excited that you went for it!! The only thing is, when you apply it...make sure there are no dog or cat hairs around! I definitely have a dog hair trapped in mine...but I'm too lazy to peel it off and reapply! 🤣😅 Edited February 6, 2021 by Betsy The @ didn't @ the first time! Haha!
Martin
So shave my massively shedding Australian Shephard/Bernese mix? Got it. 😝
Hobbit
I also got the window cling recommendation here on this forum. I went with a dark blue semitransparent film and I love it! Great looking tank @Martin and congrats on your first setup! 3
Martin
What a beautiful tank @Hobbit! I am always amazed at others' driftwood! I have wood envy! 😬
Streetwise
Amazing, @Hobbit! I see yellow Neocaridina in your future, grazing that wood. @Martin, how are things going with your tank?
Hobbit
Thanks @Streetwise! If I didn’t have loaches I would LOVE some yellow neos. 😍 I used to have reds in there but they all became snacks. @Martin Thanks! My neighbor found that at a local inlet. Do update us with a new picture when you have the chance!
Martin
Hey guys! @Betsy, the blackout paper worked GREAT! Thank you! I love that it helps camouflage my giant heater. @Hobbit, an updated photo as requested! I ended up moving my apongeton a little as that thing is getting HUGE. I read that it gets big, but the rate of growth is crazy! It went from about 2" from the bulb up to about a foot in 3 weeks or so. 😲 Thanks so much for the support and fantastic advice!
