JessicaS
I need some help trying to bring my fish back to life! I have a betta in a 5 gallon tank. He started showing signs of fin rot a few weeks ago. I started doing 25-50% water changes every 3-4 days. I purchased maracyn and ich-x and used for 5 days with no sign of improvement, but no worse, so I stopped using. Yesterday I saw he had a hole in his fins. I’ve been using aquarium salt at every water change, tested the water and nothing seemed too off. I removed some deco that could’ve been too rough. I just don’t know how to help this little guy. 😞 Edited January 29, 2021 by JessicaS Pictures

Colu
Your ammonia to high that could be slowing down the healing process I would continue with maracyn and aquarium salt for 5days if no improvement I would try maracyn2 because it could be a gram negative bacterial infection
FlyingFishKeeper
Correct me if I'm wrong but could it be that he's biting his tail since I can't really see any signs of infection? Idk though, I might just be missing something or just lack of experience?
Colu
Have you see him biting his tail most cases of fin rot are caused be poor water conditions that lead to a bacterial infection Edited January 30, 2021 by Colu
JessicaS
I haven’t seen him biting his tail. I am going to give another round of the medicine and take out my Java ferns (I think are rotting). I have been using seachem prime at every water change. Is there anything I can put into the water to help with ammonia levels? Thank you guys for your responses and help.
Colu
Seachem prime is sulfonate based and will interfere with ich x and other med maracyn is ok to use with prime
