Alternative to catappa leaves?

Hello Nerms!

Something I have been thinking about for a while but haven't been able to ask on a live show (I usually watch them after they have aired) is about catappa leaves. I have several house plants that I grow for fun and was wondering if the leaves could be used in the same manner in a fish tank. I am wondering if anyone knows if the leaves off a dwarf lemon tree, or a dwarf banana tree would have an adverse effect on water quality. Could I use the trimming from the house plants to add that more botanical look in planted tanks? Thank you for any thought/suggestions.

I use alder cones as an alternative.
