stotastan
Hello fish keepers, I recently (last week) parboiled and killed all my fish with a heater malfunction. I want to repopulate the tank but should I completely empty it and start from scratch or do a 50% change? It has live plants with a plant type substrate and plain gravel covering. Thanks in advance for your advice. Stotastan
Colu
I would leave it empty for three weeks to make sure that any bacteria or pathogens have gone
H.K.Luterman
I'm sorry for your loss, that really stinks. If it were me, I'd just do a gravel vac and a water change. Just double check the plants and parameters are looking good. Since cause of death was 100% certainly from the heater, I personally wouldn't worry about disease.

Colu
You might be better with two smaller heaters one at each end of the tank if one back it less likely to cook your fish
