I have some decapsulated eggs that I haven't tried using yet because I encountered an article suggesting that while they are edible, they aren't often digested well. Evidence for that was examining feces from multiple feedings under a microscope and finding that most of the material was still intact after passing through the fish.

On the other hand, I've checked waste under a microscope from some of my fish that happened to catch a few unhatched eggs and found them to be busted open and empty. If they can get some value out of unhatched eggs I can't imagine the decapped eggs would hurt. The article made me apprehensive but I would love to find that they are safe and useful.

I'm pretty sure this is the one I read or at least makes the same point.

It never gave the impression that they were harmful, just not as readily digested as other foods and so less useful. I would love to find out that this is anecdotal and that they are useful. They were expensive!
